You may not like it, but...

An Executor-class battleship is 17.5km long and has 13 engines.

The two domes on an ISD's bridge tower are sensor domes.

The DS2 explosion destroyed all life on Endor.

Senators represent sectors, not planets.

The Second Death Star's explosion did no such thing. Where did you get your data?

Re: You may not like it, but...

Maybe not all life but i doubt no side effect at all would happen to Endor

after all if our moon was to explode we would have catastrophics event soon after.

Did not!

Duh! It did no such thing! How would they have their big celebration with the Ewoks if the Ewoks were all toasted? Hmm?

Re: Did not!

In both the Star Wars movies and books, the ewoks lived on.

(Applauding)

Couldn't have said it better myself

You're welcome, naturally.

You know one of the nice things about Entmoot? People spell my name right.

My email correspondent insists upon calling me Leif Erikson, even when I specify the other way around. Historical character am I not. I will make my own history, if they insist upon putting me in the books. (Speaking with a deep and authoritative voice)

Rather off the wall, this post is. Nothing to do with the conversation. But then, we're having precious little opposition right now, so for while waiting for some, perhaps we can talk about something else.

Names

People spell my name right here too. That NEVER happens. I hear brillywig, bilwig, brilwig, etc.

Re: Names

Oh dear, sounds like you have a far worse problem then me. Why did you decide to use the name biriwilg? It's nice that some of these weird names people think up and use when on the Internet have real reasons for them, or are used in places other than the Internet.

Re: Names

Speaking of names, how do you pronounce yours, biriwilg?

Just curious

Biriwilg

I got from a book of ancient heroines. It's Aboriginal, I think. I've never seen it anywhere since, except where I've been. It's pronounced bih-rih-wihlg, like it looks. I think it's simple, but like I said, people never get it right.

Miralys. Hmm, nice name.

But where did you get it? Or was it just right off the top of your head.

Just curious.

As stated there, because a scientific analysis of Return of the Jedi means that Endor was destroyed, that analysis indirectly enjoys canonical status as its conclusions are taken straight from the canon. Therefore it takes precedence over the novels.

Re: Miralys. Hmm, nice name.

Who took this scientific analysis? Was it authorized by Lucasfilm, or was it simply someone else mathematically dubbing it up?

Re: Miralys. Hmm, nice name.

Whether it was authorised by Lucasfilm is beside the point. Endor's devastation is a direct result of events depicted in Return of the Jedi, therefore it enjoys canon status and takes precedence over the novels.

If you say that it's invalid because the analysis wasn't authorised by Lucasfilm, then you can say that any observation taken from the films (and taking precedence over novels) is invalid because your eyes aren't authorised by Lucasfilm. Scientific analysis is more difficult but no more invalid than direct observation.

Re: Miralys. Hmm, nice name.

I'd hardly consider it beside the point. We saw the Death Star get turned to tiny space debri, and that doesn't necessarily mean it can be large enough of a blast to devestate an entire planet. We saw how big they are in comparison by the hologram shown by Mon Mothma and the other rebel leaders.

There are many practical impossibilities all throughout Star Wars. But it doesn't all have to be plausible, and it is't all meant to be. If it was all meant to be factual then you'd find illogical things all throughout the Star Wars trilogy. Things that were made for the movie. How could they have held the celebration on Endor at the end if the planet was being destroyed around them? They would have had to start packing in speedy order just about immediately, not having a party and throwing fireworks.

George Lucas didn't like to have things devastate main characters or places in his films, otherwise he would have let Han Solo die in the carbonite. The actor actually wanted his character to die there, but George Lucas said no.

Parts of Endor might have been effected by the explosion, but obviously not very much.

Please read the commentary I linked to. It answers all of those points.
