I think I have a pretty clear picture of how (and why) the "magic" disappears from time to time.

Thank you! Unfortuneately, I dont' think I'll be around long enough to witness it. I certainly don't plan on it, and as far as I'm concerned, these longevity genes are just the carrot for the average person.

No offense to you my good mooter, but your name cracks me up! Is Justin Timberlake now a sucessor to Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton?

Why, no; the thought hadn't even thought of thinking of crossing my mind!

Not that there's much chance of me running in such an election anyway, I've sort of...nodded off. Lots of people have left, and I don't have much spirit left for the 'moot anymore.

Hey, how was it, back in the "good 'ol days"? According to Tolkientrail.com, "hundreds of new posts daily"...was this really fact???

I know, a lot of the familars are gone. Ruinel, JD, Lalaith Elf, the other Lalaith, even Linaewen doesnt hang around much. The stuff that really bonded us back then was, believe it or not, the LotR movies...we all had something to say in that forum back then...oh yes! and what about my LotR remake!? Everyone was going nuts and signing up. That was the thread that made me famous. I wonder if Azalea still works on the script...

but we DO have lots of NOW familiars, Curubethion, Troll's Bane, Lotesse...

I am fading ....

can't even remember what i came on to post ....

though shame on you hector!! was probably part of it ...

seems to me though the powers that be no longer tolerate any debate here: -even and ironically enough especially about tolkien - but in general each thread now is a long linear and narrow corridor with stark strip lighting, any debate that even hints at crossing over into any other (even quite natural & relevant) subject in it's natural course of debate, gets straight-jacketed.

If you look back, that wasn't the case. It seems formula over finesse is the order of the day.

What made the board the board it is seems to be the very thing the current climate seems intent on stifiling - and yet the good ol' days will be wheeled out ever as paradigms of excellence and glory ...

is the current generation of mooters any worse than past generations?

Not in my book- no.
Just give them a chance.

All we know is if the moot goes down again - temporary tents will be set up across the web serving tea and moot drop-in centres in a blitz style spirit of unity, hope and defiance.

I'd say that says enough about the current crop of mooters - wouldn't you?
