due to Off Topic ramblings by many in various threads, I have taken it upon myself to create a thread which does not deal with the politics of one specific nation. Feel free to discuss the merits of various systems, International Relations, specific country examples ehre a thread doesn't exist for that nation, and anything else which comes under the Umbrella Topic of 'World Politics'

New spam thread open for business. Many threads have side things in them - it's not just political discussions. It's part of discussing things - look at the damn religious threads and the evolution threads.

global village - the term used to signify the perception of the world getting smaller, as an example, her I am talking to one person insweden and one person in america concurrently, whilst i am in england

che guevara - revolutionary socialist, helped castro, until castro turned on him, was caught by fascist bolivian army, and shot, he is one of my heroes

Che Guavara wasnt anything too special, he's just a pin up boy, hence Nurv, why every man and his dog has got a tshirt and badge... My local pub has a Che wall. Its just got a massive hanging with che's face on it, and everyone gets there photo taken on the che wall

whilst i admire both trotsky and lenin, i have to say that guevara is my hero

Yeah - that is rather interesting. Maoist rebel army also seems to be growing larger in strength too. I wonder what will the result be if they overthrow their government. It seems like it would create another North Korea.

i hate these countries that claim to be socialist and then pursue such obvious right wing tactics, because we know who is holding the puppet strings

I don't think dictorship governments etc. make a country worthy of hate.


About socialism... do you have a problem with Sweden? Or Canada? Neither country is completely socialist, but where are you drawing the line here?

I think it does. Particularly such countries as North Korea and Cuba where the governments are so backward that the people completely suffer.

And yes - I do hate socialist and Comunist forms of government. I should say FORMS - because it's not necessarily the people I hate - but the form of government they have.

Actually - yeah I have a problem with them. I don't hate them - because they aren't fully socialist - but I would NEVER live in Sweden nor would I live in Canada.

I personally feel the US is has too many social programs and has too many hand outs and it's no where near as bad as sweden or canada.

most, if not all, states we refer to as "communist" are/were actually dictatorships, or nearly so... the difference is authoritarian vs. democratic... and socialist vs. capitalistic

I am aware of that. But it still remains that the common usage refers to governmental forms - regardless of whether they actually a socialistic democracy - it still is thought of as being socialist government - even though the term actually defines a ridiculous economic model.

Heh... funny thing is...that's one of the reasons I would live in Sweden.
I think it depends upon the people what kind of government works. IMO socialism works best for the benefit of people when it's used within smaller countries...but there's more to it than that.

I really don't feel like having 50% of my hard earned money being stolen by the government and then having to pay 25% in sales tax on top of it. Americans have a much higher standard of living overall.
