But I think the buildup on the part of the US was a necessary step to getting the Russians to the peace table. If it was a reversal by Reagan, I think the first part was as necessary to the result as the second. And yes - we didn't look at it as spending them into submission. We were spending what we thought we needed to for our very survival, as we saw it. To get behind that particular bunch would have been hazardous.

Well they did give him a pass in Libya. But it was just a silly award to bestow on a new president. Especially of the US who is expected to act and lead on so many things globally.

I dunno, more than one Nobel Peace Prize winner has done a stint in jail to my knowledge. So hardly ironic.

Last alinea in the article is interesting.

Not a fan of drone strikes myself, but then I've always found that you Americans don't always play nice with your new tech toys.
