Here's a gun thread, for gun-lovers and gun-haters to hash it out on. I just thought I'd start this thread and lean back, and watch the fur fly.

Should handguns be more controlled, and if so, in what way, and why?

What's your favourite gunmaker, and why?

Do you hate guns, and how come?

What do you think about tragedies like Columbine, and what do you attribute it to?

How should they be controlled, though? What exact control measures should exist, in your opinion, that do not already exist now? Are today's control measures sufficient, or not, and why? Or why not?

oh... well i don't think any civilian should have a submachine gun, but when i say gun control i mean being able to use a gun, you know point it at something and hit at least in the general direction of wher you r aiming.

but as i said before even submachine guns are meaninless to the power of the darkside

Firearm-related crime has plummeted since 1993.

Nonfatal firearm crime rates have declined since 1994, reaching the lowest level ever recorded in 2002 and 2003.

After 1994, the proportion of nonfatal violent incidents involving a firearm declined.

According to the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) in 2003, 449,150 victims of violent crimes stated that they faced an offender with a firearm.

Gun Control - Hitting what you aim for with one shot.

Handguns owners should have a CCP (Concealed Carry Permit) and be legally packing. For home defense, a barely legal length shotgun is best for it speaks all languages when the slide is engaged.

As far as automatic weapons, They should not be for sale openly. But I have no problem with owning a semi-auto AK-47, preferably Czech-made. The Chinese stamped version are highly inaccurate.

Best rifle to have is 1903 Springfield .303 with scope.
Best pistol is an M1911A1 .45 Cal auto
The best automatic is the Thompson 1928-A4, though the 1921 A1 with a 100 round drum is a classic.

Wow! You're going back to the civil war days! Black powder guns are fun by the way. I shot my ex brother-in-law's Sharps .50 cal before, and its equivilent to putting a small cannon to your shoulder. You best dig in the foot before firing, and after aquiring target, lead it some depending on windage, and close your eye when you pull the trigger!

I made a typo on the Springfield. its actually a 1903...

And here's the 1911-A1... it predates the Beretta M9 9mm.

I had a similar experience with one of my father's guns, out shooting on his private range when I was a kid, but I can't remember which one of his guns was the one that had that furious-Spanish-bull-kicks-in-the-head kick like that. Dad had so many guns; a ton of 'em.

The M1911-A1 was the primary sidearm for the U.S. army from world war 1 to 1985 when it was replaced by your M9. The main reason for its replacement was because the .45 ACP shell wasn't NATO standard wheras the 9MM shell was.

The Springfield was the primary U.S Army weapon in World War 1, and was used as a sniper rifle in World War 2, having been replaced by the M1 Garand as the primary infantry weapon. The Springfield was used well into the Vietnam era.

The German army in world war 2 used the 9mm Lugar as an officers sidearm, but many preferred the P38 Walther. The primary rifle they used was the 1898 Mauser firing a 7.92 MM cartridge.

hmmm went out shooting friday night, i dont mind having a shot or two but im not overly fond of it, gets boring as ****... and i dont like being dragged by my two hick mates the two hours to melb just to go to a gunshop, and then after they were finished when i quietly suggested we go to JB so i could buy some dvds and the new KMFDM album, nah thats ****ing boring

anywho, shooting was done with two of the worlds most pathetic guns, some sort of lever action 22, and the most decrepit shotgun i have ever seen.
next week my mate will have his new Rem 22-250 so might have a bit of fun with that....

Debatable...a decent 30.06 w/scope is more practical for most uses. IMO

agreed but the newer 9mm with the proper ammunition are just as good and again, easier to buy these days.

From personal experience, no. The recoil is far to great for the average person to handle well. It pulls up and to the right for most people so severely that they can't hit a target 15' away (well more than a shot or two).

I really enjoy shooting my hubby's .22 semiautomatic. I've always liked target-y things. I shot a semiautomatic handgun for the first time last year, I like the rifle better. Feels more like archery, which I also love (we have a 20-lb recurve bow).

I own an old enfield and a few other rifles, but its my brothers and dad that really own them ans use them... but by far, my favorite is me scatter gun! I have a small .25 Berreta I carry with me incase of something.... And guns are merely tools, in my opionon, it the intent thats the weapon.

Some one attempted to mug me once, back home...he had a gun, i had a knife...but the thing is, he didnt have much intent to use it, so I got him to back down and run away.

I do believe in controling ones own guns. however, I really really supported that ban on assult rifles. I dont think a person needs an ar-15 to fend off a cat burglar or go hunting... there wont be anything left of either being should a person open up on them...
