Hello world, still here?

It's the 22nd here. And by the looks of things, the world didn't end while I wasn't paying attention. Ah well, there will be another apocalypse along soon enough, I imagine.

So what would be your favourite end of the world? Any good apocalypse stories? What would you like to see as portents of the approaching end?

As for me, I quite like the idea of going up in a blaze of glory in a few million years when our sun goes supernova, provided we've found a way off this rock by then.

But I also kinda like to see a rain of frogs before the end. You can't have a proper apocalypse without frogs, just sayin'.

I quite like the idea of the Rapture: all those religious nutters getting hoovered up to heaven, leaving the rest of us to live in peace and harmony.

Either that or the inter-galactic star-goat out of The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, which they made up in order to get rid of the entirely useless one-third of the population.

Gaffer, are you sure you won't be hoovered up in the general melee, if there is such an thing as the Rapture? That could be quite apocalyptic for you! In fact, it could be your own personal individual eternal apocalypse, come to think of it!

The world is still here!

Here are some very beautiful pictures of the Middle East during a rare snow event that are worth a gander or two!

I liked the idea that the Mayans were counting down to the release of the Hobbit. They were only a week off, and hey, with the time difference of thousands of years, who cares if they guesstimated a bit?

And they probably hadn't reckoned with Peter Jackson being a little delayed by deciding to make three movies instead of two.

The star goat gets my vote. Of course, having got rid of such useless elements as telephone sanitation engineers, that society was then wiped out by a plague originating from an unsanitised telephone....

Maybe Sublimation is the way to go, a la Iain M Banks novels

Yeah I was a little disappointed by the Mayans. I mean, we had to suffer a Roland Emmerich movie because their calender ran out of room!

Hardly the Mayans' fault, they actually left a calendar with predictings for periods after 2012. Although I reccon an actual inscription saying: "dear modern world, we don't actually believe the world's gonna end in 2012, dunno why you keep saying that we do. Do kindly stop." would have been handy.

Besides, I'm pretty sure the Mayans would have constructed emergency engines on their arks. Just sayin'.

They had almost half a continent to do it on! But yes, an explanation of their calendar would have been very handy. And who knows? Maybe they had one, but Indy & co. came and trampled on it to get to a petty jewel....oh wait that's not funny.

Interesting fact that reminds me of. Apparently some Viking ships could match speeds of any motorized boat their size!
