HELP! - Basic posting questions

Greetings!

I'm new to the Entmoot and enjoying it very much so far, but I have some basic posting questions - things that I just haven't been able to figure out as yet...

1.) Can images (other than an avatar) be posted? I tried adding an animated gif to a post, and I couldn't get it to work...

2.) I notice some folk have interesting (Elvish???) font in their names - and since I've been posting here, these same characters have shown up on other pages I visit, which are completely unrelated to this one (such as The Aria Database! LOL!) Where do these come from and can anyone tell me why I'm suddenly seeing them everywhere?!? (I find this hilarious, by the way; as if I'm being sucked into Arda, computer and all! )

3.) What is the "#" button for????

I know that I have more questions, but it's early, I need more coffee to jog the old brain cells... in the meantime, thank you, I appreciate any help/advice!

Alqua

PS - I hope I haven't put this post in the wrong forum... my apologies if I have!

Images can be posted using the image tags [img]whatever[/img], but it will only show up in General Messages Forum as an actual image. Of course, they have to be linked to a website somewhere.
Like this...

This image is linked to mysmilies.com
(btw, that's another hint for you: the "http://" tag)

I believe you mean Tengwar. Tengwar fonts can be found by doing a search on the web on any search engine. There are fonts for PCs and Macs. But you have to have the fonts in order for you to view them. (There's also Cirth and Runic.)

I don't know if I've answered all of your questions, I've got a hell of a headache right now. If I didn't, hopefully someone will help you out here.

Hmm...

Okay, I've tried, but all I get is this! LOL I tried both with and without the "www" part... ugh, I'm just not so computer-savvy! It seems to be appearing as a link rather than an image, even though I used the IMG tags...

So why only the General Messages board?

PS - Thanks for the advise, Ruinel! Sorry for your headache - I just got over a very nasty one myself, and can totally relate - feel better soon!

It's funny that this has come up, considering Ben and I were discussing this yesterday. It appears that img is randomly disabled in forums here. For some reason GMs is excuded, but that may change. We know that if you try to post an image from another website, it eats the other sites bandwidth, so it is best apparently for that function not to be turned on. The way it is now, you may use the img tags and it will appear as a link.

One way is to attach a file. When you are posting, right above the 'Submit reply' and 'Preview reply' buttons, there is a box which says 'attach file'. Hit the 'browse' button next to it, and choose the file on your computer that you want to attach. A link to it will appear at the bottom of the post.

Do you mean actual Elvish characters, or English characters with accents over them, such as these: Ã* è ì ò ù á é Ã* ó ú â ê î ô û ä ë ï ö ü ã ñ

If you mean those, you're seeing them everywhere just because people choose to use them.

No idea. Let me try some #ed text:

What does this look like?
Bizarre. I wonder what it's for?

Well, I hope I've answered your questions. Enjoy the Moot!
