Banned... What is this "banned"? How and why does one become banned around here? Isn't "banning" a little bit Orwellian?

I was banned from Tolkienonline in 2003. itt was a good thing in retrospect.

But how come you were banned? I mean, were you outlining an assassination plot, or something? The word "banned" sounds so extreme to me.

Actually, every board out there has guidelines and rules of conduct to which members are held accountable. If someone violates these they are usually warned by an administrator and then any subsequent violation causes their IQ to be banned from the board. It's quite reasonable and fair and utilized sparingly.
