It certainly exists, don't you think.

Re: Similarity between the Darkside and the Ring
Yeah. The Ring gives you immense power, and you cannot throw it away. It eventually consumes and dominates you.
The darkside gives you immense power, and it is very hard to turn back from it. It eats away at you (e.g. Palpatine's body) and eventually consumes you. |

Re: Similarity between the Darkside and the Ring
how about Gandalf in Moria compared to Obi-wan in his fight with Vader?
they both sacrificed themselves to let their comrades escape a perilous pace, they both were the typical "wise old leader" who help the naive little hero (luke/the hobbits) begin their quest they both got "struck down, & became more possible than their enemies coudl possibly imagine" they both were considered oen of the wisest of the wise in their respective universes (on a superficial note) they both got cool white aura-glows after they returned & even after they'd died, they both had to come back because there was still work for them to do! aryne * |

Re: Similarity between the Darkside and the Ring
Gandalf didn't come back as a ghost as far as I know from the first half of LoTR I have read, whereas Obi-Wan coming back was part of the broad Jedi-ghost picture. Interesting point though.
