The Pitcher's Picture

A little tongue-twister skit inspired by the hilarious acts of Danny Kaye (hence the names of the two players).

The Pitcher's Picture

DANNY and KAYE meet. DANNY is holding a picture depicting a baseball pitcher in the act of throwing a porcelain pitcher.

DANNY: Hi, Kaye!
KAYE: Hello, Danny. Say, nice picture. What's it of?
D: Well, it's a picture of a pitcher.
K: A picture of a pitcher? DANNY nods. What's he throwing?
D: Well, the pitcher that the pitcher is pitching has a picture of another pitcher painted on it.
K: The pitcher in the picture is pitching out a pitcher with a picture picturing another pitcher painted on it?
D nods: Actually, he's a painter.
K: The pitcher is a painter?
D: No, no. The painter's pinch-hitting for the regular pitcher who cut his hand on a glass pitcher while pouring punch.
K: Then why is he pitching out the pitcher?
D: Because he doesn't like the painting.
K: The painter-turned-pinch-hitting-pitcher is pitching the pitcher because he's not pleased with the picture painted on it?
D nods: The pinch-hitting painter is pitching the pitcher with the painting at the other pitcher who's not pictured here in the picture.
K: The pitcher who cut his hand on the glass pitcher while pouring punch?
D: No, no. He's pitching the pitcher at the pitcher pictured in the painting.
K: The painting on the pitcher?
D: Yes.
K: So the pitcher in the picture who painted the picture on the pitcher is pinch-hitting for the pitcher who cut his hand on a glass pitcher while pouring punch and is pitching the other pitcher- the one with the picture painted on it- at the other pitcher- the one who's not pictured in the picture- because the painter-turned-pinch-hitting-pitcher isn't pleased with the painting on the pitcher in the picture?
D: Precisely!!
K: What a pain.

THE END

(hopefully it's all spelt right )

Another year's gone by, and I was thinking once again,
How can I take this losing hand and somehow win?

Just give me One Good Year To get my feet back on the ground.
I've been chasing grace; Grace ain't so easily found
One bad hand can devil a man, chase him and carry him down.
I've got to get out of here, just give me One Good Year!

Cute!

Reminds me of the classic Abbot and Costello routine "Who's on First." If you've never heard that, you should look it up. It's absolutely hilarious!

Yeah, I have heard 'Who's On First?' They just don't make humor like that anymore. Every time I hear it I laugh sooo hard!!
