New SW Zahn novel...

My brother told me that there's a new SW novel out that takes place between ANH and ESB...Mara Jade is in it apperantly, but the interesting thing is that in the book, four stormtroopers desert the empire! How did THAT happen?

Anyone else heard about it?

Yeah I read that book it was at my college library its called Allegiance and its not a bad read. Zahn is probably the best SW author they've ever had I would almost buy his books.

Well, the thing I like about Zahn is that he knows killing off characters is secondary to the plot. Thats the problem with the other SW authors, they depend too much on the characters to cover their lousy plots.

Do you mean that Zahn is willing to kill off characters?

I liked his trilogy with GA Thrawn. Although I did not like the way that Zahn wrote Thrawn's demise.

I actually think GA Thrawn was an excellent character.

I agree that Zahn is one of the better writers of SW novels.

After the first dozen or so (new star wars) books, I stopped reading SW novels. They started to get more and more unbelievable and a bit repetitive. (IMO)

I did not care much for the almost religious quality that has been attributed to the Force over the years. I liked it better when the force seemed to just be part of the physics of the Star wars universe.

No no...quite the opposite, he realized that killing characters was stupid, and concentrated on plot.

Same here..."I Jedi" was a stinker. "Courtship of Princess Leia" was pretty lame too...and don't get me started on "Truce at Bakura"
Super repetitive, you're right...

Well, I always thought the Force was kinda like Zen...but they did make it too whacko in the NJO series...
