Who was Ohtar, and what did he do?
Ohtar was Isuldur's squire. He escaped the disaster of the Gladden Fields with the shards of Narsil, which be brought to Imladris.

On what day of the week did Frodo leave the Shire?

Do you mean what day did he leave Bag End or what day did he exit the Shire? Sorry to nitpick.

Not nitpicking at all.

I meant the day Frodo left Bag End.

The great marshland region beneath the Emyn Muil that formed where the river Entwash flowed into the Anduin.

He left on a Wednesday, too, I believe...

Don't forget this question! Since I wouldn't know one from the other, I'll pass. There was that meeting with Gildor, but I have no ideas what kind of elvish he spoke??? Frodo was the elf friend, Sam knew some stuff he learned from bilbo. Someone!

I'm pretty sure it was Gildor's elves. Frodo mentioned they were "High elves," wouldn't they speak Quenya rather than Sindarian? I know they mentioned Elbereth, something Grey elves wouldn't normally do. It was either them or Frodo, because,
Quote:
"Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo, a star shines on the hour of our meeting," he added in the high-elven speech."

Or am I totally off?

Sam Gamgee

So if you say "Elbereth", it's Quenya, which is the language of the high elves? Hmmmm, That word gets used alot! I say Frodo.
Yes...... he tells Sam, "These are High Elves! They spoke the name of Elbereth!"

(Waiting for radagast on both trivias!)

I think that's right...but wouldn't the elves still have had to sing their song first for Frodo to comment on it? So I still think it's the elves. But I am pretty sure the Elbereth-being-Quenya thing is right.

Yes, you're right. I thought the song was written in the common tongue (most of it is), but they do say Gilthoniel! O Elbereth twice! We shall have to wait for Melkor's significant othe(r???)

In the plot of the book it's Gildor's Elves, but in the diction of the book it's Frodo. Either way you're correct, as Elbereth is High (Quenya) Eldarin.

Now someone else's turn to ask.....
