Alcuin - yes, there were a few other new characters added later. But what jumped out at me - well, once I spotted it - was all those consecutive chapters which successively add new characters. Very interesting observation that the four "non-new character chapters" all involve the Arkenstone, and the resultant conflict between Bilbo and Thorin.
