Okay, now I've seen Grizzly Man. Wow. I've been reading Kierkegaard of late, and what jumped out at me is how intensely and gloriously immediate Treadwell's existence was. Many ambiguities, to be sure, but such raw vitality!

Vitality? You mean like when he cries over the cruelty of the world when he comes across a dead bumblebee which turns out to be just resting?

That's one example, though it could be taken in different ways; the way he lives so absolutely in the moment.

I feel bad for the guy in many ways, and I do find it amazing that he was always living in the moment with death always looming close. But the guy himself was an idiot. I don't mock his love of the bears, just his naivete in thinking he could be pals with them.

As for vitality or whatnot, I felt that most of his footage was self-loving and self-congratulatory.

You're right,he was an idiot, but that's almost irrelevant in a sense. When Herzog said at the end that it wasn't about how right or wrong he was, he said something I'd been thinking for much of the show. Certainly, he did many stupid things, but after a close look, those fade away, as the sheer force of personality comes to the fore.

Shutter Island. Gorgeous direction, a compelling atmosphere, and an (apparent) unabashed revelry in anachronistic concerns/conceptions and the tropes of genre stories made for excellent viewing. 3.5 of 5.

Saw "Inception" recently. It's very good. Also last night, I watched "Good Will Hunting" with my husband. Very interesting...

I washed Flushed Away. There were so many funny references to other films like Batman, Marry Poppins etc. and was basically a sort of mini-UK. Loved it and will keep it in mind for use as a teaching tool

Saw "Ballet Shoes," I think it came out in 2007. If you read the book as a kid, I think you will really enjoy it. Plus for all you nerds out there (I guess all of you if you're on this site ) Emma Watson plays Pauline!

Just saw the Countess, a recent movie about Erzebet Bathory.

So bad. I don't know when I last heard such stilted dialogue. Which is exacerbated by the fact that everyone has bizarre mix-and-match accents. And by the fact that there is so much cheesy and unoriginal tripe.

DO NOT WANT.

I've just acquired a copy of the old version of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" ... the original from my childhood that puts the Johnny Depp version to shame. Now *this* is Halloween.

Thanks for the warning. I've eyed that a few times in the video store (where I live is so backwoods we still have Blockbuster).

Posting this in the proper thread this time, I've just finished Omen III: The Final Conflict. It was much better than I was imagining it! I think I let my perception be influenced by the fact that my little brother said it was lame compared to the second movie, so I was pleasantly surprised. Though, I didn't like the ending.
Since the line from the bible specifically says that Jesus will come back not as a child but as a King of Kings, it seems strange that Damien, who knows his scripture so well, would assume he would be a baby.

I also watched Damien: Omen II yesterday, though it wasn't my first time seeing it. It too surprised me by being better than I remembered.

So, for many Halloweens to come, I will make it a point to watch all of the Omen movies. Last year I watched only the original movie, and the first time I saw the first two movies was on Halloween when they showed them on TV, maybe 2004 or 2003. The thing is that I really don't like horror movies and there are only a select few that I will even consent to watch, let alone enjoy. The Omen movies, being more drama/thriller type movies are one exception.
