Removing the rolleye smiley?

It has been suggested before and Iâ€™m asking again â€“ canâ€™t we remove the rolleye smiley?

I think the smiley is being overused on Entmoot and that itâ€™s taking away some of the friendly atmosphere of the board. People could still roll their eyes at others (by typing *rolls eyes* or similar) however they wouldnâ€™t do it as often if the smiley disappeared. I see people using the smiley whenever someone disagrees with their posts and thatâ€™s not what the smiley is meant for imo. In many (if not most) cases, the smiley shows disrespect to the previous poster and is nothing but an unkind conclusion in a post that would do much better anyway without the smiley.

If people need to somehow show that theyâ€™re being sarcastic, there is the

smileys. The FAQ even suggests the latter - â€œFor example, if you entered a sarcastic comment, rather than type 'that was a joke', you could simply insert the 'wink' smilie.â€

No "

" --> less people rolling their eyes --> no more unecessary rolling eyes.
I think such a change would make this board better and a little nicer.

Could the admins please discuss this with each other?

I actually like the rolleye smiley.

I use it on myself all the time when I start getting annoying or just plain silly...

I think the onus is on Mooters not to abuse the rolleyes smilie, or make excessively cutting or sarcastic comments.

If we can connect ourselves to a message board, it's our responsibility to accept the consequences our sarcasm might have, be it moderation or a flame war (not that that would happen here).

However, I appreciate the spirit of your request Jonathan (and RÃ*an).

Reluctantly, I must agree with Jonathan and Rian. I don't think I ever misused the smiley (much), but it is very uncomfortable to see it so often in debate threads (but then again, debate threads are always uncomfortable).

True, but maybe taking the smiley out might blunt the arrow a bit...(or vice versa?)

I don't really like the change of colors we did for the smilies...I preferred them all plain and straightforward.

I agree with Jonathan, really.... can't see a good reason to keep it, and it just not a nice one - as in, people use it more like insults of some sort rather than sarcasm...
