Realizing that I would be the first to break my no-longer-than-two-weeks-between-posts rule if I didn't get up something soon, I made a post ...

(to be replaced hopefully later today with something a bit more appropriate )

Whole new meaning to the idea of 'elven scouts'.

"elven scouts" - Oh, that's perfect!!! And I missed it!!! I was trying to think of a Girl Scout name with Havens or something in it, and I completely missed Elven Scouts!

I think this joke is good enough that we should keep it.
Leave that post up, Rian, work the Elven Scouts into it, and add a new post with more suitable content later.

Subject to the approval of the threadmaster, of course

I love humor, so let's keep 'em!

As a tidy game-master, though, I'll ask that we bracket these fun posts with "joke post" at the beginning, and "now returning to our regularly-scheduled RPG" at the end, or something like that.

Bring 'em on! I love a good laugh

Some thoughts as I try to compose a real post ...

We'll have to watch sleep references, and avoid human-type sleeping styles. I think Earniel and I fell into a bit of that with our sleeping at the forge overnight kind of thing ... do we need any edits? What do you guys think?

How long do elves need to pack? If H. has something going at the forge he has to finish, we need to allow some time for that. I always had the feeling that elves just kinda pick up and go, but I suppose they have commitments ... I think I'll just make a vague kind of leaving time to avoid problems.

So if we keep the post, does that mean Hallindel is suckered into buying cookies?

I am aware of sleeping for Elves didn't quite go as sleeping for Men, but I do think even Tolkien's Elves needed to actually sleep some times. Some of the Elves in the Silmarillion had prophetic dreams, so for dreaming, they must have some method of sleeping! I always supposed they could go longer without sleep, and were more able to do lucid dreaming.

As for the leaving of Mithlond, we can always just put our Elves on the road after a small time-jump of say a week or two. They can then remember or consider in their minds all the things done before the leaving, like goodbyes, or dealing with previous commitments, getting leave, etc...

Who wouldn't be suckered into buying cookies from two such adorable elflings?

Quote:
Two little elven maids with bright eyes and big smiles looked back up at her. Elven Scouts!

"We're selling chocolates for our Scout Troop!" they announced eagerly as they shoved a box towards her face. "Would you like to buy some?"

RÃ*an, may I request a small edit for Halweg? He's not really a dreamy type, and while he was a bit surprised at first by the speed of Hallindel's planning for the journey, he should have adapted to the idea by now. He would be focussed and would no doubt bring up the matter during dinner, to ask both ladies what they, or Alagos and Tyaron had in mind as destination for the trip. He would intend to be involved in any further planning.

Of course you may request one I'll get rid of that bit, and in fact, I"m going to trash the whole post! - I'm very unhappy with it. I think I have an hour now; I"m gonna give it a shot.

Yes, that sounds good - I just always think of Legolas walking around, "sleeping", but I like the idea of them regular-sleeping, too - or maybe deeper sleeping? I don't know ... anyway, I imagine esp. in times of peace, they would do that, so let's go with that.

Eh, finally got this bear of a post edited and out of the way - you threw me a loop, Earniel, when you set up a conversation! I was planning to just have them leave for the next post. Of course, since I sent Alariel out the door towards Hallindel, I should have expected it.

Let me know if I need any edits for Hallindel, please IIRC, you said she was quite young when she left and didn't remember much.

Onward!

Oops, sorry. Didn't mean to put you in a tight spot, I thought you had a plan for the conversation when Alariel came over.

No edits needed. Hallindel would have been in her teenage years, young for elves, but old enough to have some memories, but I think she might just want to hear about Gondolin again, whether she remembers it well or not. Some stories never get old, you know?

So you skipped the whole 'dinner party'?
Well, if you weren't happy with it ...

I think it's good that Gondolin gets mentioned explicitly, as that is what was meant to be the inspiration for the whole story, as it were.

No - I had thought that whole picture of her stepping out of the house was a nice lead-in into the "we're leaving" post! I had never thought of it as a lead-in to a conversation, but that's just what it looked like, of course. Anyway, that's why these RPGs are interesting - ya never know what's coming!

I've added a few sentences to my last post to make the transition to the after-dinner-post more smoothly, but without ruining the opening for the elf scouts.
