I'm guessing it will be...Vols I and II are like $35 over here, probably $40 with tax.

BTW, Anthony Burgess' comments sometimes appear on CSL's books, as well as some Chesterton. Am I getting a skewed vision of the man who wrote A Clockwork Orange, thanks to Stanley Kubrick? I read somewhere that he wanted to be a composer , kinda cool.

If you were blessed by a copy of the extended video of NARNIA:LWW as I was for Christmas, and, if you were blessed with time to actually view some of it last evening as I was, you would find a disc (#3) containing a biographical sketch of CSL with Pauline Baynes illustrations that was delightfully and accurately done. If you haven't seen it, give it a try and post your opinion here.

I thought it well done but did regard the omission of Douglas Gresham's brother a missing piece. He may have declined to participate. His name was David and he embraced Judaism, despite his mother Joy's embrasure of Christianity and the Lewis influence.

Anyway, I thought the pertinent highpoints were well made. The use of the Baynes illustrations in a colorful, stop-action cartooning technique (think South Park - style animation *not language*) really drew my attention and increased my appreciation for her work. And I was concerned it might be inadequately appreciative of her!

All in all, if you have the crescents, it is worth the cost of the extended version (Deluxe with bookends, thank my family very much!). I'll let you know how the further reviews go when I get a chance to see more!

I saw that that extended version came out, I hope it's full of useful stuff.
From what you say, it tip-top bio? Maybe one of these days when I'm not poor...

CS Lewis and famous people

Leafing through a large volume of CS Lewis' letters, you can see that he wrote a few to famous people, incl. Arthur C Clarke. I thought this was interesting. I can't remember what the letter said exactly, but it was of medium length, and apparently he was arguing some point.

I read Surprised by Joy to learn about C.S. Lewis, but then I read Jack's Life and I was amazed at how much he left out when he wrote SbJ. Jack's Life was written by his step-son, I don't remember which one, I think it was Douglas.
