I can't speak for GM, but I've never seen a hint nor a clue nor even an inkling of any romance, if that makes you feel better Just a joke.

C'mon, you can't sell a movie without romance. Just ask Peter Jackson....

Now that's not true, sun-star. Remember the events on Ramandu's island: his daughter and Caspian. There was a dawn of romance, if you like! And a dawn is more than an inkling!

Romance in the sense of the medieval genre, yes; not romance in the sense of two people convincingly falling in love with each other

EDIT: and anyway, that's in VDT...

speaking of stuff on this subject, it use to make absolutely no sense to me that Peter and Edmund's queens were their own sisters. Surely CSL wasn't a supporter of...well, you get my confusion.

Have there ever been any brother sister rulers before? Perhaps CSL modeled the idea on an historic pair?

I can't think of any, partly because it's unusual to have more than one monarch at a time anyway. Normally, Peter would be the king and the others would be princes and princesses unless he died without issue. There are comments on the strangeness of this in the books - IIRC, the Calormenes think it's odd in HHB, and in Prince Caspian it's one reason why the Telmarines consider the Golden Age of Narnia to be a myth. I wonder what would have happened in the line of succession if any of the Pevensies had married and had children of their own - it's a dynastic nightmare waiting to happen!

Anyway, what makes you think Lucy and Susan were their brothers' queens, rather than the boys being their sisters' kings?

Mr. Lewis' thorough-going grounding in medieval studies, perhaps.

I don't think that they were considered being each others' kings or queens. Instead, they were four seperate monarchs ruling over Narnia. I like the way that the movie presented it: each one of them ruled over part of Narnia. A very good solution.

Ah, but Peter is the High King of all Narnia under Aslan. The others defer to him when necessary in ruling the kingdom. This is seen in the working out of the other novels in the series.

Wasn't there a set brother-sister rulers in Egypt? He may have been basing it on them?

What came first to my mind was the Commodus and Sister portrayal in "Gladiator"...

Well I don't think Gladiator was around when CSL wrote Narnia, but I get your point. You are suggesting brother/sister rulers in Rome, right?
