Strider Screwtape: 2005

What do you think would be in a modern version of the Screwtape letters? (I just finished reading them...food for thought-the end was a little creepy)

yeah - dinNER!!!!

Gee, I don't know how it could be updated, really - the basic principles are sure always the same. A wonderful book, and very hard for Lewis to write!

There have been several authors who sought to follow up the style in contemporary idiom (one I vaguely remember has a title like email from hell or such). However, it is rather like T. Brooks and the Shanarra series after Tolkien - just not the same!

Lewis said it came easy to him, too easy, which is why he hesitated to write it (Rian's "hard for Lewis to write"). I actuall thought about doing something like it, but settled for some exchanged letters between MM and SP

anne rice (a devout catholic) has delved into god vs. the devil in a few of her books... most specifically memnoch the devil where both god and the devil are really the main characters of the story and the others take a back seat

it is an interesting take on the motivations behind god and the devil... through most of the novel, the devil appears as an almost sympathetic character, but the end leaves you wondering if it was all just some kind of mass deception

the book is somewhat graphic, probably too much so for many, but paints an interesting picture of the major themes of christianity and salvation

No, I mean hard in the sense of it was almost damaging to his soul, in a way, to put and keep himself in that mindset while he was writing it.

It has been a while since I read the Screwtape Letters. But I immensely enjoyed the book when I read it. Much of Lewis I have enjoyed.

it was quite a book, creepy really, but brilliant, although, oddly enough not a very good conversation starter.

After hearing this disc:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=glance&n=5174
(and THAT demands an explanation in itself!)

I was inspired enough to write a letter from Screwtape to Slubgob, wherein Screwtape talks about music, and a particular music critic G.B. Pshaw (which is a joke, I believe, Lewis once used humourously in either The Four Loves, or Mere Christianity).

One of these days I'll post it
