Irony, Satire, Sarcasm.
Satires are horrible. Satirists have no clue, and couldn't possibly understand the things the write about the way other people do.
Sarcasm is just wrong. It's not funny, and the only people who get it are idiots. And Irony- Sheesh. Why say one thing when you really mean another? ]: )

Well, yes....but how do I stop my eyes from rolling? I'll pass on satire, no problem there. Irony can be overly "heavy, man", But sarcasim! It's like talking in code! (almost) If you do it right, you can say what you really think without insulting people, gosh, what would silly teenagers and "know-it-alls" do without sarcasm! I'd explode if I couldn't be sarcastic now and then!

Irony or Sarcasm is when people say one thing and mean another. I hope you all understand that that's not my intention, and I won't have any sarcasm on this thread, please.

Then there's absolutely not a chance your custom title is anything near sarcasm?

I love it. some of my favorite passages in literature are sarcastic. Check out Chaucer's description of the Prioress in the General Prologue of The Canterbury Tales.
The Rape of the Lock by Alexander Pope is one of the funniest pieces of poetry ever written (in my humble opinion). It's not good all the time--There isn't any place for it in George Macdonald's writings, (or Tolkien's for that matter) but it does have it's place in literature.

Excuse me, I believe there's been some kind of mistake here. Some people seem to think that Wayfarer posted this anti-sarcasm thread with sarcastic intent. However, I know from personal experience that Wayfarer is completely averse to sarcasm and would never in his wildest dreams think of resorting to it. In fact, he's the last person upon the face of the Earth who would ever say so much as a sarcastic word. He has never been sarcastic, and never will be, or at least I sincerely hope so.

I don't mind sarcasum. I use it now and then to get the message across to people (like when they ask a really stupid question. Then I use sarcasum to tell them that they just asked a stupid queston. Make sence?).

No, it doesn't make sense at all.
<Serious>My Freshman Comp teacher really encourages students to do whatever they feel like. So I did a satirical paper (why a blank page is art). Of the five people who have read my paper so far, exactly zero comprehended that I was being ironic. I actually got responses telling me that I was 'very persuasive'.</serious> Seriously, I think that sarcasm should be a bannable offense on entmoot.
