Computerproblems..

OK, I have a problem. I just have to say that I 'm really bad with computers.

The homepage on my family's computer has changed. One day, when I went on the net, the first page that accured was a porno-search page. I'm not dying because of that, but i do not want my little brother to see those photos.
I did change the homepage and so it did change - but after a few more times on the net, the pornpage was there again.

Can anyone help me, please? I'm really not comfortable with it.

Download, install, and run an anti-spyware app, such as Ad-aware.

I had this problem in Internet Explorer, so I downloaded Netscape. I bet there are other, better ways, but it was a good excuse to moving to Netcape, since everyone was telling me it's much better.

The Ad-ware costs money, Anduril, right? Is there any free anti-spyware?

I had exactly the same thing a few months ago. Luckily all we had was a bloody stupid search page that kept popping up as our home page. I had to install CWS shredder before the bug would go away.

Another anti-spyware that may be of use is Spybot S&D.

EDIT: It's all downloadable for free, RTB, even ad-aware.

Andúril! long time no see.

Radagast The Brown, a free version is downloadable, albeit with lesser functionality.

Eärniel, it's been a while.

Wow, it's like the candyman - say porn three times and Anduril will appear.

I had this problem on the PC when I was using kazaa. I haven't had any problems using the mac, but that's probably cos I'm older and wiser now.

BoP, I had the same problem. I uninstalled Kazaa, implemented Ad-aware, and installed Kazaa Lite instead. No more pop-ups.

Now.....porn?

yeah - once you've tried Netscape - you never go back to sucky IE.

By the way - I use ad-aware too to take care of those spy programs.

Yeah, it does seem a bit out of character, now that I think of it...

I downloaded Mozilla, which is based on a Netscape platform I think.

It automatically blocks annoying pop-ups!

I also have Ad-aware, and it's stupendously excellent.

In addition I run Norton Antivirus and AVG 6.0 Anti-virus System regularly. (I just set them to automatically scan, you can do that within the program. I'm sure that applies to all virus programs.)

Actually - it's the other way around. Mozilla is the base code for Netscape. Both do prevent pop-ups which is one of th best features. I also like the tab features - instead of having multiple browsers open. Although I usually have about 15 tabs open in a single browser and multiple browsers open with still more tabs.

What do you mean? Within the browser or within the Hotmail website itself?

I've got Mozilla Firebird too--working in a tab right now!

We have McAfee Virus Scan (free from the internet, I think). At one point, it detected a virus trying to be put on the comp., through that I was able to delete the infected file. Aparently, this trojan virus (I forget the specific type) was one that randomly opens new windows when using internet explorer (often porn). I highly reccommend you get Mozilla and the virus program.
