I got a scholarship!

Oh my GOD I do NOT believe this!

I just got a $6,400 scholarship to the privet high school I'm going to be going to this year. What does that mean? That means that if I can keep up an 85% grade average I will basically pay ENTIRELY for all of my schoolwork. My parents wont have to pay more than a few hundred dollars.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Now I just have to get an 85% grade average :-/. Which might actually be kind of hard for me because I kind of have trouble with math and stuff... *ponder*

I'm so happpy! Kind of... I'm see-sawing

Excellent! Don't worry about the math. There will always be teachers and tutors willing to help you (even online) with the tough stuff!

Math is a bummer, but if I can get through it and work for nine years in a bank, anyone can get through it. (This is why God made calculators...) And science isn't so bad. Chemistry is probably the toughest. Physics is just common sense (if you drop it, it will fall...). Biology is easy if you can get past the worm guts and frog bladders. So all-in-all, you have every reason to celebrate!

Nice going!

Wow that's awesome! The 85% gpa shouldn't be too hard; you know not to, say, moot instead of doing pre-calculus. That's going to look great. Congratulations!

Lol Ruinel.

Congradulations Tessar, way to go!

Was the scholarship solely based on grades, or did you have to write an essay for it (or something)?

Actually, because of the school, it wasn't based on any of that. It had to do with who I am as a person instead of what kind of grades I had.

It's like this: The school is part of our church, and each year they're opening a new grade. I'm actually already IN the ninth grade in home schooling, but due to the fact that their ninth grade is going to be fairly advanced, I can step into the school this year without having to move back or really even loosing any time.

Heck, I could go through three years of the high school and then jump straight to college, because the third year is already delving into calculus. If I pass all the AP test (advanced placement) that this high school will offer I'll be able to completely skip my first year of college plus some.

But back to the scholarship, they aren't looking for really 'bright' students (ha ha, yea, I don't get that either ). What they're looking for are 'leader' students who have a good personality because for the next four years I'm going to be part of the leading class of their school.

So what it worked down to was that I had to go to an interview (decked out nicely in one of my dad's old business sets *sigh*) and they grilled me with all sort of strange questions. Based on how well I answered them (how coherently) was how they rated my 'scholarship worthiness'.

So in some ways I didn't have to work to get the chance of the scholarship (well, that interview was actually pretty darned tough) but if I want to get the money I'll have to pull off an 85% grade in every subject.

They've set it up to $400 a quarter, BUT if I get detention for ANYTHING during that quarter, I don't get the money. i.e. it's a 'Don't-screw-up-or-else'.

And unfortunately I was wrong, my parents will still have to pay for a fairly large sum of it BUT it still works out to about $1,600 a year they don't have to pay for, and that's pretty good. I think it's the best scholarship I could've possibly gotten.

My parents are even happier than I am , although I'm still a bit worried about the whole 85% thing because, saddly enough, for me that's an amazingly good grade.

You'll do fine. As for being excused out of classes in college just becuase you had them in high school isn't really true. You can ask to test out of a class - but unless you really do very well on the test - they won't let you. College calculus can be very different than high school calculus.

From what I understand it's not just that I'll be 'excused' from them.

At the end of the semester I'll have the chance to take AP (advanced placement) tests for any of the subjects that are supposed to be college level. IF I PASS THE TESTS it will count exactly the same as if I had taken a class at a college for that subject, and I won't have to take it.

However I could be very wrong about that. At any rate clep tests shouldn't be any problem if it comes to that.

I don't think you necassarily have to not take those classes then, though. It'll look good if you take pass the AP test, bet even better if you pass it and take the class anyway. Just a tip to keep in mind when you pick your classes.
