What can we do to PREVENT this new musical from ever reaching the light of day???

Good GOD! Tolkien must be spinning in his grave over this one!

QUICK - What can we do to prevent the mindless slaughter of innocent plotlines???

I'm afraid this is old news and therefore not preventable - it's already happened

But thankfully, it flopped!

Great Merciful Bilbos! How could they DO that?!

I mean, is it me, or is this just the LAMEST idea for a musical in this sad little sphere?I could see a spoof-trilogy musical, maybe... You know, dancing Gollums and promiscuous Elfish maidens and stuff... but NOT the real story!

Sheesh! What some bonehead producers will try for money! Thanks Vorowen, for the news. It was all new to me when I joined up here. I guess I should count my lucky elven stars for that!

Oh well, dead thread... sink to the bottom, sad little thread of pointless clamor.

From Wired magazine online:
Quote:
Howard Shore’s music for Peter Jackson on The Lord of the Rings trilogy won three Academy Awards, four Grammy, three Golden Globes and probably a free lunch or two at some Tolkien-themed convention somewhere. Now, the music for the first film in the set is coming to New York’s Radio City Music Hall with the breathy title of ”The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - Howard Shore’s Complete Score Live to Film.” I suppose if Tolkien didn’t care about how long his titles were, the producers of the concert event shouldn’t either.

let's imagine good lyrics for such a bizarre and twisted flop!

what do you think of Gollum's Song of Praise:

Oh listen to the lonely praise
of lovelost nights and weary days
alone within the mountains deep
alone with Precious do I creep!

My Precious ring, a lovely thing
a golden thing of which I sing
so soft and sparkly - Oh so pretty
picks me up when I feel shitty!

My darling buddy Deagol
his heart so big, his neck so small,
he gave me this before he fell
now Deagol can go to hell!

My Precious ring, a lovely thing
a golden thing of which I sing
so soft and sparkly - Oh so pretty
picks me up when I feel shitty!

And now my Precious gone away -
some Bilbo bumbled, gone astray,
and now I wallow in self pity
and contemplate those riddles witty!

(pretty crappy, huh, Alcuin?)

No harm done. If some folks enjoy it, maybe they will also join and frequent Entmoot.

To each his own. There is no harm in it. If some folks enjoy it, maybe they will also join and frequent Entmoot. To each his own: do not begrudge another his pleasaunce if it is nor illegal nor immoral nor unethical; and besides, you may also benefit if the production produces more Tolkien fans, as it may well.

It isn’t my cup of tea, either; but let’s not deny fans of such entertainments their opportunity to see, hear, and enjoy it.

Found some of the lyrics:

Gollums song

In the lake on my own
I was waiting all alone
Baby, by myself I sit and wait and wonder about you
It's dark as a dreary night
Seems like nothing's going right
Won't you tell me honey how can I go on here without you

Yes, I'm down and feeling blue
And I don't know what to do, oh-oh

Ring, ring, so marvelous, precious and small
Ring, ring, the happiest sound of them all
Ring, ring, I stare and I moan on the wall
And I sit all alone impatiently
Won't you please understand the need in me
Ring, ring, so marvelous, precious and small
Ring, ring, so marvelous, precious and small

You were here and now you're gone
Hey, did I do something wrong
I just can't believe that I could be so badly mistaken
Was it me or was it you
Tell me, are we really through
Won't you hear me cry and you will know that my heart is breaking

Please forgive and then forget
Or maybe darling better yet, oh-oh

Ring, ring, so marvelous, precious and small
Ring, ring, the happiest sound of them all
Ring, ring, I stare at the phone on the wall
And I sit all alone impatiently
Won't you please understand the need in me
Ring, ring, so marvelous, precious and small
So, ring, ring, so marvelous, precious and small
Oh-oh, ring, ring, so marvelous, precious and small
So, ring, ring, so marvelous, precious and small
