I would guess that that other word ends in "-lade" or "-lide", and that's mere conjecture. It could end in a "-dy" or "-lado", "-lada" or something else. But I would GUESS the first two, as in "bastilade" or something similar.

Val, is it a word we'd recognize once we heard it? I mean, obviously we'll have read it in the books before, but would we know what it meant or would we have had to look it up?

I had never heard about it before - although I must have read it in HHB, it's right there when I look it up

Hastilude is a generic term used in the Middle Ages to refer to many kinds of martial games. The word comes from the Latin hastiludium, literally 'lance game'. By the fourteenth century, the term usually excluded tournaments and was used to describe the other games collectively; this seems to have coincided with the increasing preference for ritualistic and individualistic games over the traditional mêlée style.
