It's not any visible evidence for me, either, it's a theory based on the EU. (ok, ok, I know likely that is going to get thrown out and I don't blame you, it's not explicitly stated, but it's a possible plausible explanation, so hang in a sec.)

Mace invented a lightsaber fighting style intended to use against Dark side wielders, which allows the Dark side attacks thrown at Mace to flow through him and be reflected back onto the opponent.
