Looking at the unassigned chapters, I would like to do this if possible:
35. Book VI, ch 2&3: The Land of Shadow and Mount Doom
Wow... someone finally claimed the climactic moment of the whole story!!!

I'm sorry you weren't aware. There was a board-wide announcement up for a while.
You can have that section(I was surprised no one had chosen it yet!), and we are saying everyone may have two at this point, so if you want another one that's unassigned as of yet, just let me know.

You know, we *could* do a movie discussion project in the movie forum. Each person could pick scenes to do. I take it you'd like to do the fords scene, JD?

Yes, I was actually QUITE surprised JD didn't pick 'Flight to the Ford' for a book assignment! I wasn't gonna mention it, but since YOU did...

Fine... but please keep it in the proper forum and an appropriate thread.

I snatched it off him. I just had to be the one to discuss Arwen's heroic deeds in the book. (And also that brilliant line). 'If you want him, come and claim him!'. Pure genius.

I'm so stupid Azalea. I only realised recently that when you were talking about discussing a book that I've already read- you meant THIS discussion, LotR. I'd waited for a while in the Literature forum, wondering what book you were talking about.

I can't to see it, Lin. Should be very interesting.

So, who gets the part in the ROTK where Frodo sends Sam home?

Actually I knew about the project before most people. I had chosen the ones I wanted - although I actually wanted everything from "The Shadow of the Past" to "A Conspiracy Unmasked". This is my favorite part of the book.

As for Arwen - don't think so - go to the movie forum.

*Hi ho, my ears are bleeding. Must be people talking about the movies in the book forum again.*

Lin -- sorry about that! I could have told you, I guess, but I thought it would be fun to make it a surprise for everyone.

Hmph. I was trying to provoke you, that's all. No genuine movie talk.

Yeah, that's ok. It's not your fault I'm so stupid. My mind needs a bit of prodding sometimes...

I haven't read this whole thread, but I wanted to thank Valandil for talking to Crick for me and I want to thank Crick for allowing me to have the Passing of the Grey Company Chapter

In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.'

'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin

Azalea, would it be a good idea to create a sub-forum for the LotR discussion threads, like it has been done for the Silmarillion project?

Yes, it would be a good idea. However, the admins have decided (for a couple of reasons) that if a subforum is created for it, it will not be at the present time. But it is a good idea.
(Sorry I haven't been on the past few days, everyone. I have been very busy.)

i suppose it is too late
to ask for a chapter?

i have joined in with the discussion of the first chapter,
and thought it would be good to get in on the act too.

i am too late, though, aren't I?

Judging by the list of chapters on the first page of this thread, you're not too late yet. There are still some chapters open. But they're later chapters, so it may take a while before they get discussed. But see for yourself.

Done. Glad to have you aboard!

Jerseydevil -- I haven't heard from you, so I hope you'll be ready to post the chapter 2 intro tomorrow.
