Why would you want to sue mother nature for discrimination against homosexual couples?

I guess/suppose/conjecture, Mari, that you would for the same reason as your number 650. It is Mother Nature that prohibits absolutely the reproduction of two lesbians. In IVF even should the egg come from one of the lesbian partners, I assure you that neither contributes the sperm required for human reproductiion. So, it seems that Nother Nature is blatantly politically INCORRECT. Should be open for your suit for discrimination, right?

I agree on both counts, Mari. It is Silly for lesbians to say they reproduce by themselves. And it is Silly for suing either Mother Nature or those opposed to funding that silliness for saying it shouldn't be funded. If one can advocate, one can oppose. See.

Where did the funding come in?
All Gaff said was that there was someone trying to deny IVF to homosexual couples. I don't know details beyond that statement, so I cannot adequately respond to your post.
But for the record: I think that homosexual couples should have the right to have children, just like heterosexual couples.

In the UK, the National Health Service funds IVF for infertile couples, gays and single women. Typically, you get one shot funded by the NHS, then if that doesn't work you have to pay for subsequent attempts. The exact funding situation varies from place to place but that's more or less it.

Thankfully, the NHS is founded on the principle of equal access to all, regardless of ability to pay, or societal prejudice. Sadly, the Conservatives tried to embed their discriminatory instincts into the NHS with this amendment to the government Human Fertilisation and Embryology bill.

I guess it's not so much the "Gays asking for the 'right' to have children" as "Why should someone have the right to deny them access to the technology?"

Hey Gaffer, should this guy have access to IVF technology at gov't expense? Or just hybrid therapy?

Ah, Brittania....

"Unless trends change, in just eight years time most babies in Britain will be born outside marriage.

Already the majority of newborns in Wales (52%) and the North East of England (55%)are delivered to parents who are not married. Nationally, the figure for 2007 is 44.3%, having risen from just 8% in 1971..........."

Politics of family? Nanny-state does NOT equal family!
