hmm gimli was registered 08-19-2001 , a day or two after the switch from ezboard to vbulletin, has 0 posts, and has not been active since 08-19-2001.

We have discussed this in the mod forum.

Users take up little space, so there is no need for prunning them. The only reason would be to free up names that you all want.

In the past, there have been requests for names that are taken but have no posts, and they have been granted. We will take name requests on an individual basis.

That, to me, sounds like a better solution than deleting several hundred users, some of whom may come back eventually - plus this doesn't all of a sudden have the member count go down by a 1000.

If you had emailed an administrator before you registered, gimli#s, gimli would have been deleted most likely and you would have been able to register it.

Hey, I was just wondering, the whole thing is case sensitive isn't it? If someone wanted to have the name "Hobbit," they could get it, right, because Tristan's username is in all caps?

On that note, I had my previous incarnation removed, because I lost the password (and i wanted my title to be 'The Blobbit' as opposed to 'Janny The Blobbit' being my name...)

I don't believe I've thrown my large physical weight (if small lobbying weight) behind this one. There is no reason, a mon avis, to keep so many names registered that are unwanted. I think that it is right some people are kept for high post posterity, and that there should be some means to not kill the accounts of those who are readers only.

I know someone who's a hardcore lurker, and even she's posted 10 times or so. So if someone reads without even posting once in the Welcome thread... delete anyway!

You know what I've noticed recently? If you look at the way they talk, the number of posts they have within a week, and especially if they bother to fill out: biography, fav. tolkein character/book, etc., they'll stay, most likely.
I can already tell tolkeinfan will be an active poster. Can't say the same for my friend from school, SkaterFrodo...

I don't know. Percy Weasly filled in his information and posted like if obsessed by a demon for three days. No one expected him to become completely inactive after that.

Hm, I don't think his departure was that unexpected. But who knows, he might turn up again.

When we upgraded, I noticed members who had post dates next to eachother that were months-years apart. For examle: 1/1/02 compared to (insert date of week of upgrade)/04.

Hey T.D. dont be so quick to judge. Ive been around. Couple posts every now and again. For some reason Ive been putiing school first., I Guess it sthe whole oops did bad last year need to make up for it. It kinda sucks. But now I am back in all my former glory. 15 posts already in the last hour. I think what you should do is somehow make it known when you join that it is possible to get a previous;ly taken username. Tel them to check the lists. If the person has spent a long time without posting and they have ubnder like say 500 posts then they can get their username. If I hajd known that you would be staring at Melkor or Morgoth right now.

Ahem... I'm sure of that.

I agree with Haradrim... make sure people know that they can take a name if it was used by someone without posts and who hasn't been active in years.

Me... I'd be Amarië (hehehe).
