Why Books are Better than Drugs

A list I compiled for my web page Fool of a Took.com. I actually ripped the things of other pages...
You can get books in clean & well lit places called "libraries" or audio-video centers" (free) or "bookstores" (paying).

No one has ever been hospitalized for having read too much.

Books permit you to live in other realities & visit other worlds & return without damage.

No one has ever jumped from the roof of a building because of having read too many books.

You don't have to flush your books down the toilet if the police come to your door.

It is extremely rare that someone gets themselves beaten up because of an argument about a book.

Your friends won't drop you when you are out of books.

Dogs don't rummage through your bags at the airport to find books.

You can exhibit your books with pride on the coffee table.

You can't catch aids, hepatitis or cirrhosis of the liver from a book.

You can read as much as you want; it never shows up in urine tests.

No matter how many books you have, you can't be accused of "intent to resell" and even if you can, that's legal too.

You don't have to ask yourself what the secondary effects will be when you mix two or more books.

It is still more interesting to read stories about trials & hospitals than to find yourself in them.

When you enlarge your spirit with books, it stays enlarged.

If you sneeze, you won't scatter your books on the floor.

Books don't make your nose run.

If you don't read for one day, you won't suffer withdrawal symptoms. Two days, maybe.

You can read on the Metro or other public places.

You can share books safely with friends and relatives.

The President of the United States hasn't declared a "war on books" (yet, anyway).

Not one person has been subjected to a body-cavity search for smuggling books across the border.

There are places in every city where you can get your book fix for free.

Books are non-carcinogenic.

When your parents come over to visit, you don't have to worry about them recognizing the reading paraphernalia on your coffee table.

When you're pulled over for a traffic violation, you don't have to quickly hide the books lying on your back seat.

I dont know if that could be classified as "reading" material. As I imagine people dont do a whole lot of reading.

I don't know, I've gotten some pretty weird results, especially when I mix Stephen King or Kurt Vonnegut with things . . .

Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Sakata has a point........

and what about us people (me) that get so involved that we don't notice what is going on around us?

this is what happened to my poor sis when she was lerning how to drive

Mom: ok so you remember how to get to the gas station right?

Sis: uhhhhhh... no

Mom: we go by it all the time! how can you not know where it is?!

Sis: Well I was reading!

Mom: well you should have been payign attention!

then a few months ago we (us kids) found out that our mom did the same thing when she was a kid and that she didn't know where anything was.

kind of funny actuly untill you're on the reciving end......

Funny! But see, people can get beat up in an arguement over a book . . . This happened to my worst enemy once. He insulted Lotr. Let's just say he limps now . . .

So do I. I was so glad to get my hands on LOTR, since it's a nice THICK book! I read through stuff so fast, and I LOVE to read. I get upset if I don't get to read a new book often. I've re-read through my Gone With The Wind and Scarlett books so much that they're covers are coming off in bits and pieces.

May be because I have an odd habit of reading in the bathtub and tend to drop books in there, though.

My copy of the Hobbit is actually in REALLY good condition, because I've only read it one and a half times (the first time I read it I couldn't finish it because I didn't like it very much, but I was not ready for it yet)

It was my dad's, and I cherish it, even though it is only a cheap paperback book. It was printed in 1966, and cost him 95 cents, and has some really weird picture on the cover, but supposedly Tolkien approved of this publication of the book (or so it says on the back cover). It's got that weird 'old book' smell to it, and it's pages are yellow, but other than that it's not water stained or anything

I like it much better than the darn 'econo-clad' books our school has. Terrible terrible stuff.

A lot of my books have dirt or food on them though. I was a weird kid, and I liked to read at recess, and I still read during lunch sometimes. I also read when I'm walking home

lately i've been trying to take better care of my books, but when you carry them around everywhere, they just tend to get worn faster!

Umm...I think there are some of the more...shall we say...restrictive countries where you might still want to be careful about what reading material you bring in. Although anyone who can conceal print materials that way I would be very impressed with.
