am i inventing thigs again?

i have a hole in my memory <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\"> i think i read somewhere that when Sauron was still living in Valinor he fell in love with a female Maiar but, not being corresponded he began to fed bad feelings and so he decided to attend Melkor's suggestions.

am i inventing this? i've looked for it but i'm clueless where it may be...

Never heard that one! In HOME there's something about Melkor lusting after Arien (I think that's it, the Maia who ended up driving the vessel of the sun), but nothing about Sauron being a victim of unrequited love (that I remember reading in any case).

Yeah, Ben, that's the one!

Lessee, Morgoth had an eye for Luthien when she paid him a little visit. Feanor drooled after Galadriel to a certain extent (his niece, no less!), enough to decide to make the Silmarils when she refused him a lock of her hair... Which in a way, led to his downfall, in which he dragged the rest of the Noldor down with him... Could that be what you're thinking of? The bit about Galadriel and Feanor, BTW, is in Unfinished Tales.

Re: -

I can't think of anything with Sauron and another Maia. But I haven't read HoME, so I could be missing something.

Re: -

Eruve, i recalled that of Feanor and Galadriel when trying to find the Sauron thing. i think you're right: i was mixing F&G + M&A. thank

but now another doubt has come to my mind: didn't any maiar woo Melian before she found Elwe? sure not, but that prove those maiar guys were plain weird

Re: -

This would make Melian wierd, but maybe she didn't like the other Maia guys but she did like Thingol... Nah!

Re: Sauron and his true love

I don't believe there is a Sauron love story, but perhaps Tevildo, Prince of Cats (an early character Sauron replaced) had some sort of consort if you're not thinking of Melkor's pursuit of Arien.

Re: Sauron and his true love

I always wondered what Melian saw in Thingol. And isn't Thingol being unreasonable in objecting to Beren and all Mortal Men, when he himself wedded a Maiar?

After reading the Lay of Leithian, I rather pitied Daeron. He and Luthien were probably playmates singing, dancing together since they were little elf-children, and that's a VERY long time for elves.... then this shaggy Man stumbles out of the woods and steals Luthien's heart. Of course Daeron's hopping mad!!

I also got the impression that unlike a lot of other Elves like Beleg, Daeron was no warrior and felt a little left out (the Lay describes Daerons hands on his flute being "frail"). He treasures Luthien's friendship, and was losing his best and closest friend, to a Man.

It's also likely he didn't realise he loved her until Beren came.

"Ah Luthien! Ah Luthien!
What wilt thou weave? What wilt thou spin?"

Re: Sauron and his true love

Thingol turned out to be a wise and courageous king, but you know, people sometimes go for the goofiest partners.

I think Daeron always loved Luthien, and that Luthien felt a strong affection for him but wasn't in love with him.

Re: Sauron and his true love

Tivildo (it does sound Shakespearean!) appears in the Book of Lost Tales version of Beren and Luthien.
