Did Aule dislike Ulmo?
It seems that way. The Noldor (Aule's students) didn't seem to listen to him, even though he was the one who tried to help him the most. Also. it says the Dwarves feared water.

Re: Did Aule dislike Ulmo?
I think it was just that Aule didn't open himself up to the Valar about his attempted creation, and he himself was unconcerned with water, mostly (waters had some obvious power over things of his making).
Remember the Dwarves had little love for the things of Yavanna's love, even though she was Aule's spouse. Yavanna says in Of Aule and Yavanna that this is because Aule concealed his designs from her in their making. So the case with Ulmo is probably something with similar reasons. As with Orome, I would guess. Dwarves do not pay much attention to animals. In Of Dwarves and Men (an abandoned essay found in HoME Vol. XII, written in the last four years of JRR's life) the narrator notes the Dwarves never housed animals, not even dogs. |

"Dwarves never housed animals, not even dogs. "
Well, that may explain Gimli's extreme reluctance to ride horses. |
