Just a thought...

The title "Return of the Jedi" is referring to Aniken(Vader)...

well it could be, it could also be refferring to luke, because now he is a full fledged jedi so it could be saying that the jedi have returned to the galaxy.

Both really. But ringbearer has a point pointing out Darth Vader, because it is the movie where he is redeemed...

er, that was before the existance of the new trilogy, though, before you jump at my throat, i know that lucas planned this all along, but i don't think he would do that before we knew of anakin...i think that this whole thread is one of the things in the world that i hate more than anything, people reading something for more than it is...i hate that...

Well, ROTJ we sort of know about anakin, we know he was once a jedi and stuff, so really it could go either, but I kind of think its more than just luke or anakin, its like the the jedi as an order have returned because in the books (and video games) following the emperors death the jedi academy is founed the jedi truly does return. you could look at it from different angles like anaking returning TO the jedi, but I think it is symbolic of luke becoming a jedi and by passing his personal trial. because from the time Yoda dies until luke passes that last trial the universe is without a living jedi, once luke passes the test and refuses to be turned, he is a true jedi, and the jedi, as an order very soon after, return.

i say that they return as an order because in ROTS anakins is turned and the sith come to power, you could contrast that with palps and vader dying, luke starts the jedi academy and the jedi return to power.

and its possible that we are reading into it too much and its really much simpler than that.

What did you think it was named after bane of durin?

I always thought that the word "Jedi" was like the word "sheep" or "ninja" in which the plural is the same as the singular?

I which case, it could mean the return of the Jedi as a whole because Luke then becomes a teacher and reestablishes the order of Jedi.

(hmm...totally random, OT thought: Return of the Sheep -- Destiny awaits them, just on the other side of that grassy hill top!)

well when it first came out the title refurred to Luke becoming a Jedi and the Jedi therefore returning to the galaxy but george lucus always says the whole 6 part saga is about Anakin, his decent into the darkside ands then his redemption at the hand of his son. very very intresting

I myself will go with the original meaning which is luke becoming a jedi and therefore returning Jedi to the galaxy
