I need some help

A friend and I are in the planning stage of a story. The problem is I can't find any Names for a 9th Century Highlander.
Anyone have any ideas that might help?

Well a couple of sites have information on exactly what you are doing:
http://www.seasonofthedead.com/
http://bookpagebuzz.blogspot.com/200...z_archive.html

maybe you can contact them for further information................or go to the Scotland Tourism page and ask them.

First or last names? For first names, maybe this site can be of use: behind the name. There's a scottish section, but I don't know whether it can tell which are the the 9th century names.

William Wallace! William Wallace!

I'll take a look at those links. I've actually got a fantasy story planned with a sort-of Scottish Highlands setting. So with the names slightly tweaked...for example, instead of "Mac" as a prefix, I've got "Gan'". Names like Gan'Artun, Gan'Twaedirk.

Wallace was the younger son of a Scottish knight and minor landowner. His name, Wallace or le Waleis, means the Welshman, and he was probably descended from Richard Wallace who had followed the Stewart family to Scotland in the 12th century.

Little is known of Wallace’s life before 1297. He was certainly educated, possibly by his uncle - a priest at Dunipace - who taught him French and Latin. It’s also possible, given his later military exploits, that he had some previous military experience.

You might want to take a look at Gaelic Given Names The link will be toward the bottom of the page for both male and female.
Now to look for surnames
