Blind Guardian

there was an early thread about led zepplin and tolkien.

there is a group called blind guardian and they are HEAVLY influenced by tolkien

their last cd was a concept cd based on the simarillion called

night falls on middle earth

they have some cool instrumentals like

at the gates of moria

and

gandalf's rebirth

here is a link to all their lyrics

I only know the song called "Stairway to Heaven"...... strangely, the song's lyrics remind me of Varda, and in a way, Lady Galadriel.

Are you talking about the Zeppelin song or a Blind Guardian song? Stairway to Heaven is a Zep song.

Regardless, Stairway to Heaven is probably the most controversial of Zeppelin's songs in regards to Tolkien. Most would agree that while possibily influcence by Tolkien, STH makes no direct reference to anything in Middle-earth, unlike say Ramble On.

(Hopefully without sounding rude) I should say that Stairway to Heaven is a Led Zepplin song about Celtic Mythology, or at any rate in so far as the intentions and knowledge of Led Zepplin go.

I have only heard Blind Guardian's Lord of the Rings and The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins (yes, you guessed it, I'm a cheap idiot who downloads music off Tolkien Trail) and I must say I wasn't impressed. It doesn't sound pop, it doesn't sound rock, it doesn't sound country...

And if this is what Tolkien music should sound like, I must say I don't like it either. Don't ask why, something about the tune.

Begging your pardon, but isn't the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins by Leonard Nemoy?

The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins was indeed performed by Leonard Nimoy, and it was rather ridiculous. He should stick to acting and leave Bilbo alone, IMHO.

i bought Nightfall in Middle-Earth about 2 weeks ago & it hasn't left my CD player once. unfortunately i haven't heard their instrumentals, i can't find their other CD's even in "super music stores that carry everything!"

no, it doesn't sound like any one particular genre, i think that only adds to the music. if it were easily definable it would lose meaning.

as for Led Zeppelin - Stairway reminds me VERY much of LotR (i can give examples if anyone wants them) but i think other songs, Battle of Evermore, Ramble On, Kashmir, & Over the Hills & Far Away especially, have much more LotR-related lyrics. i think it's a difference of words vs. themes.

I had heard of Blind Guardian( I was a headhanger of neo-classical heavy metal fusion) for years . I happened to pick up two copies two years ago while in Ukraine.
When I get back state side I plan to purchase Nightfall in Middle Earth myself.

A bit metally for me as well, though I did enjoy the song "Nightfall".

I Love Metal!

Nightfall is one of my favourite Blind Guardian songs. I love metal, the more metallic the better... which is why I like Metallica!

Reawakening an old thread, I am.

Anyway, I just bought Nightfall in Middel Earth, and it has easily become my favorite. Both the songs Nightfall (you can almost feel Fëanor's anger and bitterness!) and Noldor (same goes for Fingolfin! Or whoever it was...) are now my favorite songs.
And Into the Storm (and it's intro, The War of Wrath), Mirror Mirror and Time stands still at the Iron Hill are pretty good too.

metal = goodness

Blind Guardian is my absolute favorite power metal band. I have about 90% of their stuff.
Favorite songs from NiME include "Mirror, Mirror" and "The Curse of Feanor" and "Dead Winter Reigns" . . . actually they are all excellent and the album creates a very epic picture of The Silmarillion.

And for anybody that does like Blind Guardian you should also check out the band "Elvenking". They also have a lot of songs about Middle Earth and are in the same genre as Blind Guardian.

Yes, Blind Guardian is the #1 best band, and I was extremely glad to find a post on them here. And to clear up all this about genre, they are Power Metal, an exellent class. Yeah, anyone who ever read any book of Tolkien's should also hear some songs of theirs. They're great for anybody, and don't let the word Metal scare you away.
But I don't think Led intended STH to relate to LotR in any way.
