I've been thinking of how to play Bard - how do I play someone grim and pessimistic? I think the best way is to give him a little bit of Eeyore and a fair portion of Puddleglum ...

Not quite as negative as Eeyore and not quite as pessimistic as Puddleglum - but on the other side, with every bit of Puddleglum's undaunted courage and readiness to face any adversary.

Quick question before I post. Are we all on the Council or just certain people?

Oh right, I forgot Celebfin's profile didn't mention anything about being in the Council. (only six characters to work with and already I mess up!)

Let's for the sake of an easy introduction, have her invited for this Council session. Maybe she has something important to tell them?

Could be anything, a report of a strange incident, or perhaps sightings of a hungry bear or other dangerous predator, maybe information that the travelling merchants will be later as part of the river upstream is flooded. Lots of possibilities.

Very good, Galadhlin can then introduce Celebfin to the Council when she makes her report.

Galadhlin is wrong about that, of course. With gold, you can hire more people, to get things done more quickly. But he didn't think along those lines.

It's nice to see Elves that don't think like Men. It's something I constantly have to think about when role playing, it's not easy to do right.

I found more about Bard - or rather, basically the same in a new package - at http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Bard_the_Bowman.

But the picture of him from here is new to me - I googled images, and this was the nicest, not quite as grim as some of the others. So this is what I'm going to see him as. I tried to post a comment and ask permission, but it seems I would need to be a member of the site in order to post, so I'll just hope it's ok.

The signature picture is of course very appropriate in this thread, but will it be too disruptive everywhere else? Like, say, in Journeys? Is it possible to choose whether to include the whole signature or not, and to edit it away in some old posts?

Signature is always visible, as far as I know. I don't think it can be alternated in any way.

You're correct on that one! For some reason, I was thinking it was just a year or so.

Another character-connecting thought though... when did Gimli come to the Mountain? And along with him, other Dwarves from the Blue Mountains - whom the remnants of Thorin's party would have sent for? I don't recall how explicit UT is on that (that's the only place I can think that would have this). Are they here? Is there an expectation that they'll come? Do they get waylaid?

I don't think there's anything canon on that. Not as far as I recall, anyway.

I expect that, in this RPG, they'll be waiting for Thorin III to finish the refurbishing of the Mountain, like the others are.

I finally thought about looking for it again, and there it is, right under my nose.

Go Advanced - then go to Additional Options. Under Miscellaneous Options you can choose not to show your signature (the default is to show it).
Works for Advanced Editing, too.

I often use the Quick Reply, where it's not an option - and even when I go Advanced, I would usually have to scroll down to find it, which I usually don't do.

Perhaps I should edit it away from my Journeys posts - seeing how easy it is?
