Actually, I think it's cooler to put your real post count. I don't think anyone is going to spam just to beat you, because we all know the consequences of that!

Speaking of post counts, mine is getting rediculous. I wonder sometimes how other people think I've gotten this many posts. Of course, I was an administrator, and Hobbit decided one day to end the spam-race and to give me an absurd amount of posts, which did its job.

But I should like to know how many posts I really have, in case I'm feeling bored and want to see some indication of the mixed results of my efforts and laziness here on Entmoot.

For me, the good ol' days was when I actually remembered a thing or two about Tolkien books, and had them on hand to make a really long, worthwhile post to contribute to an interesting, fresh discussion. Now I just feel like an ol' shadow of a fart, too lazy to retrieve The People's of Middle-earth from his garage, bereft of the lawful conscience that once guided his fingers over the keyboard. It's all about me.

I also miss the pranks Tater and I used to pull off in bad taste, but I won't get into that. If I'm not mistaken, there are still posters here with leftover titles from those days.

I tihnk you have about 2600 posts... in the old bulletin you could check in the 'search all posts..' thing, right now I think the limit is 500 posts now.

Alright, everyone, let's sing around the campfire like good scouts!

"Maaaake new friends, and keeeep the old,
Ooooone is silver and the oooooother's gold!"

I've been here two years now and definitely miss some Mooters but I like the new ones, too.

(and I'm NOT a Bliss-Ninny! I'm NOT! )

Winter comes to Nargothrond

From the The Lays of Beleriand: Winter comes to Nargothrond
Quote:
The summer slowly in the sad forest
waned and faded. In the west arose
winds that wandered over warring seas.
Leaves were loosened from labouring boughs:
fallow-gold they fell, and the feet buried 5
of trees standing tall and naked,
rustling restlessly down roofless aisles,
shifting and drifting.
The shining vessel
of the sailing moon with slender mast,
with shrouds shapen of shimmering flame, 10
uprose ruddy on the rim of Evening
by the misty wharves on the margin of the world.
With winding horns winter hunted
in the weeping woods, wild and ruthless;
sleet came slashing, and slanting hail 15
from glowering heaven grey and sunless,
whistling whiplash whirled by tempest.
The floods were freed and fallow waters
sweeping seaward, swollen, angry,
filled with flotsam, foaming, turbid, 20
passed in tumult. The tempest died.
Frost descended from far mountains
steel-cold and still. Stony-glinting
icehung evening was opened wide,
a dome of crystal over deep silence, 25
over windless wastes and woods standing
as frozen phantoms under flickering stars.
And those poor souls who in their folly defy
the mighty queen of Nargothrond
will be cast away to the fell valley 30
of Nan Dun-gortheb to pay for their crime
which was to dare disagree, with the great queen
will find themselves in the hideous arms
of hungry orcs, that will bring them torture
in the Halls of Hell, the Mountains of Iron 35
the bale most bitter, Balrogs’ torment!
And just because they dared to disagree
With the mighty queen, there will aways be
Never ending winter in Nargothrond
I remember when it was ok for people to post without having to fear for the integrity of their posts.

“What does the term american refers to” asked the boy, and the wise man answered: “Lets look at the dictionary then.”
As an adjective American is:
1. Of or relating to the United States of America or its people, language, or culture.
2. Of or relating to North or South America, the West Indies, or the Western Hemisphere.
As a noun American is:
A native or inhabitant of America.
A citizen of the United States.

Then the boy asked, “What is America then?”, and the wise man looked at the dictionary again:
1. The United States.
2. also the A·mer·i·cas. The landmasses and islands of North America, Central America, and South America.

Confused, the boy asked, “Does the term american refers solely to a us citizen or to any person in North, Central or South America?”
The wise man replied: “What do you think?”, and the boy answered: “It is clear to me that while the term american is used to refers to us citizens, one can also use it to refer to any person who is from that continent too,” the boy thought for a while and asked the wise man, “Am I right?”, and he replied: “But of course.”
The boy wondered, why is it that some people refuse to acknowledge the fact that the term american refers not only to US citizens but to anyone of the American continent?, but then sadly, the boy understood, that it is the calamity of ignorance.

I don't know what your comment means, Maedhros, but you should post your quote in the poetry thread in the Middle Earth forum - that's lovely!

It still is, Maedhros, as long as what you post is within the Entmoot rules. Really nice to see you again, BTW, you have been sorely missed in the Tolkien discussions.

I miss some of the old mooters.

I liked it when I actually had time to post and have a worthwhile discussion with someone.

Eärniel - you don't have a mod weapon?! We need to get you one! But you did a pretty good job in the political thread with your bare hands - maybe we should keep you weaponless!

Yes - good old days (and hopefully good new ones) definitely included Arty!

Yep. Mine was put by Tater in one of those pranks. But I wasn't around to see it

You can see how many posts you have really made by using the "search all posts by Ñólendil" in your profile, but I don't think that would include te posts made with your previous identity nor in the old board

Are you guys referring to pink and purple board day? Alas, I wasn't here for that... or was I... no, it was before my time. But it's funny to hear old-timers talk about it!

For some reason that reminds me of a comment from way back in the day:

no no, i changed all of the admins and mods post counts to 60,000 posts because members, who will remain nameless (*cough* bop *cough) were spamming and otherwise posting very rapidly in order to get high post counts.

the ppl who had the highest post counts at the time were the admins and mods for the most part.

many members wanted to get post count past them.

so i made our post counts unattainable

Dont worry, I kept records of all your post counts somewhere from before I changed it. All I would have to do is add whatever you got after 60,000 to what you had before.

Greg had his changed back like 4 months ago or so.

Only problem is that somehow IP's post count got all screwed up - it is 50,000 something. ah well

The Vbulletin search for all posts is not terribly accurate - and remember, many of us had posts from the ezboard entmoot - and we transfered post counts over.
