The person who wrote it has even got a theory on how dragons could breath fire.

sorry about that -- I must have typed it wrong, but yeah, it was the part about the methane gas making them able to spit fire that I found fascinating, because it seems possible.

Here, try this link http://www.dragon-history.com/
An interesting point is made here concerning the record of dragons within the Hebrew script of the Holy Bible. Modern translators attempted to get rid of the dragons and replaced them with other animals, but in actuality, the original Old Testament writings clearly describe dragons.

Doesn't Dragon Rider series state they had to eat a certain type of rock in order to maintain the ability to breathe fire? That might do it.

Yeah, something about the mineral content, the mixing of certain chemical/mineral components to produce a reaction. Also, check this out about dinosaurs & dragons perhaps being interrelated, and coexisting with humans up until just recently http://www.genesispark.com/genpark/ancient/ancient.htm

I actuly have a few theorys on dragonfire:

1: It is flames from some sort of internal fire, explanes the smoke out of the nostrals

2: A sorta napalm like thing which they manage to light aflame and spit it at enemys, explanes why it's so feared.

3: And of chorse there is the theory of hydrogen and sulfer or other outside elements
(which I diddn't make up but included for completeness)

I have always been fasinated by dragons. I'm sure at one time Dragons exsited, but thanks to overhunting and knights trying to prove their bravery, they are just a legend.

The thing is: There is no way to prove that something has never existed (That I can think of)

And at the very least there must have been at least some kind of flying snake-like thing that is the base of most of these storys of dragons.

Dinosaurs come to mind.

Imagine, a T-Rex with wings... That should be enough to send anyone running.

They'd be pretty clumsy if they could fly...

He would have to have one hell of a wing span

They have dragon fossils. They have been misnamed as Pteradactals and the like

Not just the wing span would have been enormous, the mass of muscles capable of lifting a few-tonne dinosaur must be outrageous too. But yes well, fantasy creatures don't bother much with physics, do they?

The pterodactyls don't quite look very convincing as dragons to me. They've got the huge wings, and the claws, but the tail and strong limbs for starters is a bit lacking.

So a flying t-rex/dragon would have to have a great deal of mussle in it's chest...
And be kinda light but with smaller legs (As it can fly) that would be a little easyer
