I want to do it first....actually, I have been considering filming it just for my own fulfillment, in a style heavily influenced by Jan Swankmajer. I have no delusions that many people would like the way in which I would film it, but that's cool. I'd enjoy making it.

Oh, my film will never be shown to those outside of my insane circle of friends and family, and never for a profit...It's basically a fan film. If I ever did want to release it, I would definitely talk to the Tolkine estate, and hire a reputable lawyer.

All the more reason to secure some kind of permission... with your luck it will turn into a cult film, and be widely distributed. Then you won't have any control over the film AND New Line will try to sue you....
