I could imagine people saying "Fool of a Potter"

Call me stupid, but why do people say "Welcome to Rivendell, Mr Anderson" when Hugo Weaving appears at Rivendell, Arathorn?

Because the guy who plays Elrond, Hugo Weaving, was an Agent in the Matrix who liked to refer to Neo as "Mr. Anderson". And it seems so funny to see an Agent as one of the most powerful elves in Middle Earth.

In The Matrix, Hugo Weaving was dressed a lot more different than his character in LoTR, and his character had a totally different personality..
Ian would look exactly like he did in LoTR if he played in Harry Potter, which makes it even more awkward.
You know what I mean???

I wish that Ian Meckellen had agreed to play Dumbledore, that would be really neat... But i agree, it might be a little ackward...

Yes, but at times Hugo's voice is strangely reminiscent of Mr. Smith's. It's funny to hear the same inflections come out of Elrond.

I doubt Sir Ian would look exactly the same; he'd need a new nose for one thing.

I am opposed to his playing Dumbledore also, it'd be like Shakespeare doing commercials . . . having a surfeit of anything lowers its value ... we have our own Gandalf, our own precious (so to speak) wizard, and he should not spread it around.

Hugo's voice definately threw off his character for me, since his voice was exactly like it was in The Matrix. I agree that it is funny to hear his same voice in both movies.

I haven't seen many other of the LoTR characters in many other movies..other than Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, and Sean Astin.

Since it's been determined that it is in fact NOT McKellan who will be in it, I'm closing this thread, and the discussion can move to the HP thread in the Entertainment forum. I'm pretty sure there's already a thread that exists that can be used.
