Pope Joan from "pope joan" by Donna Cross because she is so smart and strong/
Anne Shirley from Lucy Montgomery books because she has such a dear soul.
Jo from "little women" cause she is just great and I love Mr. Bear too - he is such a good man!
and Pollyanna cause she is always happy and cause she's really sweet.

Re: Favorite and most memorable characters

Rincewind from Discworld. He is so cool.
Also Death, who is perhaps even cooler, he too from the Discworld series.
In fact, all the characters in discworld are so cool they ought to be here, but...

Oh my! Where do I start?

Ok...

LOTR: Aragorn, Faramir, Frodo, Sam, Gandalf, Eowyn....oh, man. I can't list them all. All of them!

Cadfael from...Cadfael! I love those books!

Tegid is my favorite from The Song of Albion. So awesome!

Fflewddur Flam from The Chronicles of Prydain

And there are so many more! I can't think of them all.

For me, under most memorable... well, aside from the many, many memorable characters in LOTR, that is (especially Gollum)... I can still think of a lot. Hercule Poirot comes to mind, as do Philip Marlowe, Dirk Pitt and the Scarecrow from the Oz books, as well as a whole lot of others... but they're all well-remembered because they're in multiple books in a continuous series. As for characters that were only in one work? I'd say Sam Spade, Scarlett O'Hara, Ebenezer Scrooge (who's worked his way into modern lingo, pretty much)... my, so many!

And I certainly can't decide on a single favorite character from any book. I think it would probably be Mayweed from Horwood's Duncton Chronicles (the second and third books). Anyone who's read those books would know exactly what I mean. But there's a lot of others I like - Gollum, HAL from Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey...
Since I'm a huge Clive Cussler-fan I would say Dirk Pitt.

Of course the fellowship of the ring and Faramir, Eomer, Eowyn, Tom Bombadil and the River-daughter.

Fleming's and Gardner's James Bond, Peter O'Donnell's Modesty Blaise.

Falagar's top 10-list right now:
1.+2. Will and Lyra from Pullman's "His Dark Material"
3. Fëanor
4.+5. Death and Sam Vimes from Pratchett's Discworld-books
6. The robot Marvin from The Hitch-hiker's guide to the galaxy
7. Frodo
8. Hercule Poirot
9. Aziraphale from Good Omens by Pratchett and Gaiman
10. Though not finished the whole book/play, Hamlet is a good character...

These are my favorites right now.

Never managed to finish the whole Iliad (still working on it), and though it's quite entertaining I haven't really gotten into any of the characters...

...yet.

My favorite characters, besides Galadriel, Aragorn, Éowyn, and Frodo are: Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane; Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson; Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin; Kinsey Milhone; and Oscar Gordon from The Glory Road, by Robert A. Heinlein.
