How about this... Riggo and Theisman are doing an interview together. When was the last time those two spent time together? I think I saw Sonny warming up in the backround...

Sheesh! Joe Gibbs getting hired back in Washington ALMOST give me hope that the Bears would re-hire DA Coach, MIKE DITKA!!! Isn't gonna happen though - for one, he's not so highly regarded as a coach these days - for another, he ripped management pretty hard after they fired Jauron... said they had never done anything to support him as coach. He's a straight-shooter... and the Bears' management could never handle that aspect.

Meanwhile... sounds like Jauron is a leading candidate for Buffalo!

You guys think you've got it bad... Try living in a city where the worst team in the NFL thinks they need more money. I feel bad for poor LaDanian Tomlinson... He's a great player stuck in a sucky team. He should have made the ProBowl, but the Chargers didn't win anything. Stupid creeps. Now they want to go to LA. Well, LA has ruined the last 3 teams they had. They can't ruin the Chargers, so I say Let LA have 'em. The Chargers are so bad, even Schottenheimer can't fix them. "We'll go to LA if you don't build us a stadium...." Well, let me say something to them. Start winning a few games and maybe we'll consider a new stadium.

Although, the Raiders/Chargers game was a fun (pointless, but fun) game to watch. Neither team cared anymore. They were both out of the Playoffs, but they had to make those season-ticket-holders happy.... Now I know why Seau left... They canned him... but I woulda left anyway....

After bumbling around for awhile, and starting with the premise that the team needed someone who was "Very offense-minded" the Bears' management has just hired the team's third consecutive former DEfensive Coordinator!

This guy's nickname is "Lovie"... coaching the BEARS!!!

Hoping it'll work out OK, but I still think Jauron deserved another year to prove himself - and without being undercut by management's inability to get and keep good players.

"Lovie" Smith mostly did well as the Ram's defensive coordinator - but their last two games this year were total defensive collapses - finishing the regular season, they lost to Detroit - of all teams. Then they lost their first playoff game - at home.

We'll see...

Anybody out there still got their favorite team alive in the playoffs?

Correction:

"Lovie" is the new coach's actual first name! I wonder if his mother would change that, now that he's made a career of coaching football?

Appears the Bears' management was far from above-board through the whole process. The GM, Jerry Angelo, after bringing out another candidate and Lovie Smith, mentioned a third, un-named candidate - and said he had to mull things over. Now it appears the purpose of this was to keep Smith's salary down. The Bears have to pay the coach they just fired about $2.4 mil this coming year - the last year of his contract, so they signed Smith to a 4-year deal for $5.4 mil TOTAL... makes him among the lowest-paid in the NFL coaching profession. After this, and blowing up at the media, I wonder if the GM is 'damaged goods' and will be let go by the team... who on earth could feel like he would treat them fairly in any future negotiations of any kind???

New England is just a tough place to win. Even as hot as Manning was.

I guess! The officials didn't seem too awake! Why bother throwing the ball if the other team holds the guy back so he can't catch it? Football is weird! bleah...

GO PATS!!!

they did blow two holding calls at the end there too Lizra, though it is a common thing in the playoffs... the colts are a good team, with some defensive improvements i'm sure they'll be back

So what do you all think about this whole Maurice Clarett court decision? Its going to have pretty significant repurcussions in professional football if its not reversed. I mean suddenly high schoolers will be able to jump right into pro football like they can in basketball. I dont know I find that kind of scary. Football is a much more physical sport. I think it takes a lot more physical ability to be good (not to mention special training to master some of these complicated offenses) then it does in basketball where raw natural talent is more of a factor.

It's a legally corect decision. No one should be discriminated against on the basis of age (unless it is spelled out in the constitution, which I think should be ammended to allow any adult to run for any office). It is best for them to stay in college, but it comes down to market value. If some team creates demand for ill prepared players then they will come out early. If nobody picks up Clarrett at even the base salary then there will not be must of a groundswell of those opting in early.

How do each of you think your teams did in the draft?

I'm unsure about the Bears. They really had a good draft LAST year, but otherwise, the GM has made some seemingly bad player / personnel decisions. Now that he was able to shed the previous coach and hire one himself, he at least seems to be trying harder ... my thinking always was that he was undermining the previous guy (ie, trading away an anchor of the defensive line for a draft pick just before last season, signing guys the coaches graded low (and they didn't pan out), signing guys for lots of money - and watching them get beat out for starting positions, etc) - and that he'd try a lot harder to make 'his guy' look good. We'll see though.

What's so odd is that they drafted two guys at the same position with both of their first two picks - a couple defensive linemen (after shoring up the o-line with free agents, trades, etc in the off-season).

What about YOUR teams?

Joe Gibbs & Co. did about as much as they could do for the Redskins in one year to undo the abominations of the last four years. They will may make the playoffs but they may need another year to fix the team before they can compete at the top level.

New England, however added a top tier running back in Cory Dillon, and a Pro Bowl caliber DL in the draft, so barring critical injuries they may be a juggernaut next year.

Well the new season starts tonight. Any early picks for the super bowl? Philly and Baltimore maybe? and why is it the NFL insists on wiping itself all over with annoying celebrity garbage the beginning of each season now. i realize that they want to attract the casual fan and the non fan by selling out to pop sleaze but I dont need to see Jessica Simpson for me to get into football.

Oooo... glad to see you bump this! I've been thinking of doing it myself.

Hate making early predictions, as they're usually in vain.

High hopes for the Bears... but low expectations. I DON'T think last year's coach was the reason for the losing... I think the GM who fired him should bear much more blame for that. We'll see though...
