Well, heres mine, books and works, in no particular order.

A Farwell to Arms - Hemmingway
The Divine Comedy - Dante
The Illiad - Homer
War and Peace - Tolstoy
LOTR/Silmarillion - Tolkien
Huck Finn - Twain
Malone Dies - Beckett
Three Musketeers - Dumas
Meditations - Aurelius (if you can call it a book)
Time Machine - Wells

I actually really dont like modern fiction. Always figured that if it was still in print after fifty years, it must have something.

Cheers

...

I don't think that I know what my actually ten favorite books are, but these are ten of the books I've enjoyed most, and which have shaped my own writing.

If on a Winter's Night a Traveler... - Italo Calvino
Life of Pi - Yann Martell
Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series - Tad Williams
As I Lay Dying - William Faulker
The Once and Future King - T H White
The Alice Books - Lewis Carroll
The Bloody Chamber - Angela Carter
Pentamerone - Giambatista Basile
Prydain Chronicles - Lloyd Alexander
Complete Works of Shakespeare

I'd also add the Complete Short Stories of Lord Dunsany if such a book existed. Sadly it does not exist, which means that a person has to dig through every used book store in the country to get them all.

Yes, and believe it or not, those two (besides "Christmas Carol") are the only works by him that I've read...though Nicholas Nickelby and Oliver Twist are waiting in line

Beleg-Tom Jones is better then LoTR? Well...I as much as I admire Fielding's book, it is no where near as good as LoTr....never mind, different people different opinions.

I also see some Calvino, Dostoevsky and Tolstoy fans here....great!

Don't tell me you haven't read "A Tale of Two Cities"?????? I think that's even better than Great Expectations! (I got annoyed by Pip, and I love the French Revolution).

tsk tsk tsk
