Tolkien's Languages

Which are your favorite?

If you want, here is an address to all his languages:
http://www.uib.no/People/hnohf/

(Sorry if a thread like this already exists. I searched. Sorry if giving that address is considered advertising.)

I like them all, for they all have different sounds and are realistic. I wish Tolkien had further developed Nandorin and Telerin.

Definitely Quenya. A beatiful, flowing, silvery language. Love it to bits.

This will probably be moved to the Middle-earth forum.

You can't write in Dwarvish. All Runes are originally Elvish.

I'd say Quenya because it's the most complete out of all his languages and it sounds so beautiful with so many vowels involved. Sindarin, while extensive, is too subject to changes. The rest of the languages are either too underdeveloped or just do not sound as nice as Quenya.

Sindarin. I think it's prettier than Quenya.

Quenya is my tongue. Exists a fair language.

(Ëa is more "exist", I would use or nothing at all...I think...There was something about ëa describing a timeless truth, but I'm very unsure)

Ah, yes... good advice. I have a list of vocabulary that says 'ëa' means 'it is'. Then it must be incorrect.
I am trying to learn. But I can never practice because there is no one to practice with.

What Ardalambion's wordlist says about Ëa:
Quote:
ëa ("eä") "is" (CO), in a more absolute sense ("exists", VT39:7) than the copula ná. Eä "it is" (VT39:6) or "let it be", used as a noun for "All Creation", the universe (WJ:402; Letters:284, footnote), but this term for the universe "was not held to include [souls?] and spirits" (VT39:20). Early "Qenya" also has a word ëa "eagle" (LT1:251, LT2:338), but this is certainly obsoleted by soron, sornë in Tolkien's later forms of Quenya.

Barrowdowns is innacurate about a whole lot of things. I don't know about that in particular though.
