I am SO excited about the special edition! I can't wait to see all the different scenes, maybe I should go watch the movie right now on DVD to make sure I can pick out everyhting that's different... oh, wait! I just finished watching it half an hour ago! Could I handle it twice in one day?? Of course, but I don't think my parents will.

Anyway, I just can't wait! It's going to be ABSOLUTLEY POSITIVLEY AMAZING!

I'm very pleased :)

It's good to see everyone so excited. I myself got the first edition from a friend for a graduation present, and then I'm buying the other one for myself, but, if I plan it right, I can get all the other ones (TTT and RotK) as gifts because my birthday is in October, and then Christmas is after that!

Maren

P.S. I believe its on lordoftherings.net where you can see a complete list of what is going to be on the SE edition. Very Exciting!

A couple of questions: First of all, what's this about a 5 dvd set? Are all the extended versions 5 dvds, or just the collector's box set? If it's just the collector's set, what will be on it that isn't in the other? EDIT: never mind, I just went and looked.

Next question: Has anyone heard anything about the extended version being shown in theaters? There was something on my ISP home page about it. That would be great!
EDIT: This is actually for a contest on moviefone.com, where you can enter to see it on the big screen. Unfortunately it's not being released for the general public. Oh, well.

I think that it should be showed on the big screen just before the Two Towers comes out for people who can't remember what it was like and so they can actually remember what has happened so far. and for us who can just go and see it again... and again...and again etc and just get totally addicted to it again even more than we are now! plus the cinema's would be making more money and the film, so they won't be losing out. It should also be released so i can drool over Orlando!!!!!!!!!!
(I've just had a lot of coca cola to drink so none of this may make sense!)

Where to get it for cheap

It comes out on the 12th and if you go on Wal-mart.com you can pre-order it fairly inexpensively ($25.68 or something including S+H), plus you get a LotR t-shirt. It probably has "WAL-MART" emblazoned on the front, but hey, free clothes! Can't pass that up.

I pre-ordered my copy from Amazon.com about a month a go, but I canceled it last week.

Since it would have been a Region-1 set, it would have been formatted for NTSC. I'm sorry, but that will not do. It just will not do. I'm sorry.

Then I went to Amazon.co.uk, as their Region-2 set would be formatted for PAL, but I don't feel like parting with 26.08 quid. I'll just wait and see if I can source it locally at an acceptable price.

Bye bye now.

Can you go to a Walmart store, or do you have to go thru Walmart.com? Is that the best deal around so far that people have found?

Hoot!

I'm still reeling from having bought the "normal" DVD, unaware that there was going to be an extended version. Should've 'mooted first, I guess.

Though Harry Potter is even worse for shameless profiteering. At least they haven't trademarked all the characters in LOTR (or have they? Will we see "Sam's Guide to Camp Cookery" on the shelves? How about Legolas's Wash 'n' Glow shampoo and conditioner? etc)

You never make any sense anyway

I can't wait for the DVD!
I have it all planned
- Get dad to buy collectors box set
- Get LOTS of food so that I won't have to go out of my room to fetch it.
-Baracade myself in room and stay there until I have seen everything.
- Eventually come out and annoy family my quoting, talking in elvish or going on and on about how good it is.

There perfect! It may take a couple of days (but If I watch it all non stop I might be able to do it in one day)

Oh, and I think that LOTR is much better than Harry Potter

In the box set you get some book ends don't you?
And you get the same as in the extended DVD but an extra disk The National Geographical one about the land they filmed LOTR on with interviews with the actors about the place.

(Did any of that make sense??? )
