Clive Cussler (The Dirk Pitt-series, definitely my absolute favourite)

Dale Brown (Writes very good military techno-thrillers)

Harold Coyle (ditto)

John Gardner (These contemporay Bond-books are among the best)

In Crime:

P D James (my definite favourite in this category)

Agatha Christie (have all the Miss Marple books)

I love Lillian Jackson Braun's The Cat Who.... series.
I also love Rita Mae Brown's Wish You Were Here series
