"Off-stage" events in the novel that will be on the screen

We've already seen plenty in Fellowship, usually in an expanded form - the Last Alliance, Gandalf's imprisonment and escape from Orthanc, Saruman building the Uruk-hai army and giving them their orders, Gandalf's trip to Minas Tirith to research the account of Isildur, Boromir's last stand and the capture of Merry and Pippin.

And there's more in store for TT and ROTK.

As of this writing, the confirmed ones (they were filmed, though the final editing process will of course determine if they stay):

- Gandalf's battle with the Balrog
- Wormtongue's trickery and treachery in Edoras
- The Ents and the flooding/destruction of Isengard, and Merry/Pippin's journey there

And we're bound to see a whole lot more - I'm almost certain these will be presented:

- Gandalf's return to life as the White, through Lorien
- The entire journey of the Grey Company from the Paths of the Dead to the Pelennor, especially the
- Eowyn's growing relationship with Faramir
- Elrond's parting with Arwen
- The Ents and the defense of Rohan, the second front as the Siege of Gondor went on
- Possibly, the defense of Lorien? (even the first one in Fellowship might be restored in the extended cut, remember)

More ideas?
