I've never read any of the books, but I completely agree with you afro-elf.

Thank your lucky stars you don't consider any of that lousy merchandise "literature" that reads like it was factory-produced to maintain control over the proles, as Orwell would say, has any relevance to the magnum opus of cinematic artistry that is Star Wars. Or I'd be very upset.
Besides, Attack of the Clones has just proved YET AGAIN that the Expanded Universe has no bearing on the saga whatsoever.

If a screenplay is original (not adapted off of a book, I find it quite uninteresting as well to read the books. I agree A-E.
Un-adapted screenplay also leaves you with more wonder when you view the film for the first time. It's not trying to satisfy any book fans. And if it kicks arse, it does it on it's own.

I would concur with that. Obviously.
However, Timothy Zahn did a pretty good job with his version.

I personally like(d) the EU. I started with Timothy Zahn's magnificent trilogy, and that got me hooked. I read the entire first series. Admittedly, some of the books were just plain bad (any of the ones with that Callista), and I was in fifth grade when I read most of them, but still, the majority were fun reads in the spirit of Star Wars. I was bored to tears by "Vector Prime," though, so I never read that series.
It's unfortunate that the EU writers were allowed to speculate on issues on which they had no knowledge in the first place. We know now that Boba Fett isn't Jaster Mereel, he's a clone of Jango Fett, so there goes the Bounty Hunter Trilogy (which was one of my favorites) and anything that referred to it. Stormtroopers are also Jango's clones, so we can trash the stories that had the troopers as regular people. What would really be interesting is if GL goes against the things that were in the actual novelizations. Are those canon?

I think that stormtroopers are not clones i think there will be a few clones left by the time of ANH but not 2 many i was allways under the presumtions they were conscripted. the comand staff of the starships certinally are not clones.
This will also explain why the stormtroopers are so god awful fighters.

Maybe some go over to the dark side, and work as Emperor's Hands?

Wow. Turn to the Dark Side and if you don't dare defeat Vader, you turn into furniture...
