Staggering to believe but they were just going on about how amazing it is that 3 African-americans have been nominated for the top awards. Now, you might say this is a good thing, and I'd agree. But I was just about to write here that it's simply showing people are racist that they are making such a big deal of it in the first place, when the british guy covering it over here made exactly that comment to the Americans he has on his show. Which led to a rather embarressed silence and a few stupid responses. Nice to know they were basically admitting that the Oscar jury are racist! Sweet  Make 'em all look stupid is what I say. Since when was colour making a difference about how people act for crying out loud??? |

When does color make a difference in anything, except what other colors look good on you and how easily you sunburn?
I wish they would just get on with the show, for once....meh. Eek, the Titanic theme!

I wonder if a lot of people associate the 20th Century Fox theme with Star Wars like I do. They played the two themes back to back. When they started the 20th Century Fox theme - the first thing I thought about was Star Wars.

Color shoudn't matter either. And I'm tired of them going on about how there are 3 blacks up for oscars. It shouldn't matter at all and color shouldn't be discussed. They're actors and that's it. It should be based on performance - this isn't a quota situation.

Most people can care less I think - but they always like pointing these things out. That's why we have Black History Month. There are a lot of great blacks - they should be celebrated for being great people - not being great blacks. It's just all stupid. We'll never get past racism if we can't start just looking at everyone as just being PEOPLE.

Well that's what really stupid is that blacks want their own history month - that is why we have it. They want to be seperate but then want to be included. I don't understand it all. To me - I wish people could just drop the whole black/white thing. But that's not going to happen. Like Sydney Poitier - is a great actor - he deserved that award for being an ACTOR. But then - did the committee give him it as a "black" actor or as an actor. I really really hope it's the latter - but who knows.

It's the blacks who want it?
Oh dear it just gets more and more confused. I can see their problem though - how to get recognised at all. It's 'which is the lesser of two evils?' - to be ignored or to be hilighted in such a way that encourages people to think of them as different? Mind you - without really wishing to get into such a big area as equality, you do get terrible conflict. EG when I visited California a few years ago the big news was affirmative action, which was basically a way of saying 'we want equality!'. Except they were hoping to achieve it by being racist against whites. Weird eh? We get the same stuff here with women - they want equal rights which makes getting jobs easier for them than men. What's that all about eh? |

I tan really well - and halle berry is awesoem looking. So I don't really understand that whole black/white thing. I thought the most beautiful girl in my high school was black.
