Book Snape vs. Movie Snape

Ok, I've said recently that I thought Snape was for the fangirls. Well, after all the movies released so far...I just want to say that the movie version of Snape is whole lot more sympathetic and interesting, and, well...cool.

Actually, I'm amazed at how good all the characters were translated into the movies.

Agree, disagree?

PS: though the movies definitely downplay the Harry vs. Snape story.

I definitely agree. I was not much attracted to Snape in the books (not before I have read HBP and DH), but movie-Snape was super cool from the very start. Alan Rickman is superb, the best of the lot.

Yep. It is a shame how short was the sequence with Legilimency session when Harry saw his father James et al. abusing the young Snape. Harry's reaction to learning that his father was less-than-perfect was definitely downplayed, if not missing. I believe it was a very important element of the story as well as Harry's doubts about Dumbldore's actions and character. But the Order of the Phoenix film was so shallow in comparison with the corresponding book anyway...

I actually haven't seen many of the movies, but Alan Rickman is a brilliant actor. He captures Snape so well, I now picture Movie Snape when I read the books!

Daniel Radcliffe is a great actor too, but for some reason he doesn't really look like Harry Potter. Rowling gave a very vivid description of Harry in the books. It doesn't help that Radcliffe is now twenty. Older actors often play teens though.

Actors-wise I have most problems with Hermione. The girl manages to sound annoying enough, which is good. But she is way too pretty. Where are the big teeth? Where is bushy-hair? What - no wigs available?

Speaking of hair: Young Harry's hair is anything but unruly.

And was Voldie really ever said to be completely bald?
He was described as very tall, thin, skeletal, which the movie-Voldie is not.

Snape was interesting enough in himself to be Lily's best friend for years. Until he went off track. YOu guys are denying a very interesting character reality just because you don't like him as portrayed from Harry's perspective.

Snape, apart from Harry Potter, is the most interesting character, the most intriguing character, the most ignored character (by fans) in the series. And some good people are really not very nice to be around. Since when does good mean nice? Just imagine Snape as out-of-control Death Eater and and I think you'd have a really nasty character - one capable of vying with Voldemort for pure evilness. But you don't get that. You get an incredibly interesting fellow with some obvious warts.

It all comes clear in THE DEATHLY HALLOWS.

Oh but I don't deny that Snape is interesting. For me he is the MOST interesting character out there, more interesting than Harry.

I'm the other way around from Gordis. I got more fangirl-y over Snape in the books because (if I ignored the numerous references to his greasy hair), I could imagine him looking however I wanted. I'm not calling Alan Rickman ugly, but movie Snape isn't really hot either, especially the voice (in other words, he was perfect as Snape ). He was a little nicer in the movies, maybe, but that doesn't make me like him any more or anything like that.

By the way, am I the only one who's in love with Draco Malfoy after seeing Half-blood Prince? (I'm in love with movie Ginny now too, but she's not mean )

Well Katya, I wouldn't say I fell in love with Draco, but Tom Felton sure makes the character come alive! Kudos to Alan Rickman, again, for a great Snape. (Just saw it).

I don't think be spoiling anything if I said this was perhaps the best film since #2 (which is the best, still). I was not disapointed at all. Will go see it again, in fact, with two sisters. And unlike Transformers, Star Trek, or Night at the Museum, I won't find it tedious to sit through.

PS: Don't listen to the critics on this one. They're the same ones who said #5 was the best...until everyone hated it, then they agreed with the public. This new movie is superb.

There's more to Hermione than sounding annoying. That's my biggest problem with Emma Watson; the annoying voice is all she can do, and Hermione doesn't always sound annoying in the books.

As for appearances, Hermione does get rid of the big teeth early on. I think it's the fourth book when she's hit with an Engorgement charm that makes her front teeth huge. When Madam Pomfrey is shrinking them back to normal size, Hermione lets her go just a little bit further. But Hermionie does have bushy hair (unless she applies lots of magical hair product, which she bothers to do precicely twice in seven years).

In the book, Harry has messy black hair and green eyes. In the movies, he has neat brown hair and blue eyes. I guess this isn't important, as long as Lily Evans is depicted as having blue eyes as well.

Last I saw Voldemort in a movie he was stuck to the back of Quirrel's head. So I got nothing for ya there.
