Relation of Jedi and the gov. in the old Republic.

Who was under who? Qui-Gon showed up at Queen Amidala (sp?) space ship and just kinda told her that he was going with her. No please, or thank you, and she wasn't at all supprised. Yet he had to tell Chancellor Valorum that he wanted to speak with the Jedi Council. How exactly did the Jedi and the Old Republic work together?

Neither had total control over another. The Jedi and Old Republic were allies, not the same organization. As for Qui and Amidala's spaceship, when do you mean?

I mean that he showed up at the launch pad (or whatever they call it) and basically told Amidala "I'm going with you." Nobody showed any supprise. Also, it was not Qui-Gon's ship, it belonged to the Naboo gov. What right did he have to just show up and declare he was coming?

Well it's probably because Amidala didn't want to leave a Jedi on an occupied planet. I don't think he necessarily had any authority, but just wanted to get off.

Sorry, I guess I didn't make myself clear. I didn't mean when they left Naboo, but when the went back to Naboo from...umm....how do you spell that planet's name? The one where the gov. is housed.....

Coruscant? She probably felt grateful to him for rescuing her, so she gave him a favor.

Then why did Qui have to tell Valorum that he wanted to meet with the Jedi Council?

I think we need to distinguish between the planetary gov'ts and the central one. I guess that this is the order of power: Senate(led by Valorum), Jedi, planetary gov'ts
